Jesus' life, death, and resurrection is what gives complete freedom from the chains of sin, and death, and everything that's broken in this world - including diet culture, EDs, and being at war with our bodies.

Right now, we know that the diet talk is getting LOUD and telling everyone to "avoid temptations." It’s all designed to make you feel like Easter is a minefield you have to navigate very carefully.. but I'm telling you that the Easter's focus is about Christ's unconditional love, the fulfillment of God's promise of new beginnings with new hope, and redemption.

Today, if you ever get distracted and eat more than you intended, find some self-compassion. You’re human, and one afternoon of chocolate bunnies and other delicious meals doesn't change your worth. You can enjoy the food you love and continue to nourish your body.

However you’re spending your Easter, I hope you find space for the traditions and people you truly enjoy. Most of all, remember that your worth is rooted in Christ’s unconditional grace, which is far more greater than any food rule or body image stress. 🐣✨💖

Is it bad to drink coffee first thing in the morning?

Not necessarily.

Coffee contains caffeine, which is a stimulant that can help you feel more alert by activating your central nervous system. This is why many people reach for it first thing in the morning.

However, it is important to understand that this feeling of “energy” is not the same as nourishment.

Caffeine does not provide the macronutrients your body needs after an overnight fast. While it may help you feel awake, it does not supply carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, or minerals that support sustained energy, focus, and overall function.

From a non-diet and intuitive eating perspective, the goal is not to avoid coffee. You are allowed to enjoy your morning cup. The gentle reminder is to consider pairing it with food when you can. 🍪🥐🥯🥪

Even a small snack can help support more stable energy levels and prevent that mid-morning crash, irritability, or difficulty concentrating.

There is also a common belief that drinking coffee on an empty stomach will “damage” your stomach or significantly disrupt your hormones. For most people, this is not supported by strong evidence. Some individuals may feel discomfort, especially if they are sensitive to caffeine, but this is not a universal rule.

Instead of rigid rules, it can be more helpful to notice how your body responds and respond with care.

Coffee can be part of your morning routine.

And your body still benefits from nourishment alongside it.

On this 3rd week of National Nutrition Month, we are talking about eating well on the go, and that includes foods that are quick, convenient, and yes, even processed.

Somewhere along the way, many people were taught that packaged or “on-the-go” foods are less than. That they are not as nourishing or not as “good.”

But in real life, those foods often make eating possible.

They help you stay fueled between meetings, during long days, while commuting, or when energy is limited. And that matters. 🥑

Because when the body is consistently nourished, it supports:
✨ more stable energy
✨ clearer thinking
✨ improved mood
✨ less preoccupation with food

Eating well can look like a home-cooked meal. And it can also look like a sandwich between errands, a granola bar in your bag, or fruit on the way to your next commitment.

Both are valid. Both count.

If your schedule feels full and nourishment has been inconsistent, it may be helpful to have support that fits into your real life and not one that adds more pressure or rules.

Our team at Maddox Nutrition provides non-diet, weight-neutral nutrition counseling designed to meet you where you are. 💻

✨ 90% of our clients are covered by insurance, with many paying little to nothing out of pocket. And we are now accepting Tricare (Triwest) insurance along with Anthem/BCBS, United Healthcare, Aetna, and Cigna.

Save this for busy days and share it with someone who needs this reminder. 💫

Dietitian Nutrition Support Gentle Nutrition ED Recovery Adequate Fueling

03/19/2026

Biologically, hunger is one of the body’s most important signals for survival. 🍽️🧠

When the body goes too long without enough food, it begins to adapt. Hunger cues can become quieter, metabolism may slow down, and the body shifts into a type of energy conservation mode to protect itself. 🔋

Think of it like your phone switching to low power mode when the battery is running low. Your body does something very similar when it senses that fuel is inconsistent or insufficient.

The absence of hunger does not always mean the body is adequately nourished. Sometimes it simply means the body has adapted to prolonged underfueling.

Hunger is not a weakness.
Hunger is not something to ignore.
Hunger is a signal that the body is asking for care. 💛

During National Nutrition Month, this is an important reminder: nourishment is not about restriction or discipline. It is about learning to listen to the body’s signals and responding with adequate fuel.

And don’t forget to hit 📲FOLLOW so you never miss an episode and rate and review the show to help the message of food freedom reach more people!

If this perspective feels different from what you have heard about hunger before, remember that relearning how the body works is often part of rebuilding trust with food.

💭Thinking a lot about food?

It might be because you are literally not eating enough food!

When the body & brain is deprived of adequate energy and nourishment it revs up the drive for food. That’s biological. It’s a survival mechanism.

➡️ We learned a TON about this from the Minnesota Starvation Experiment by Ancel Keys in the 1940s (look it up, it’s fascinating!)

Stressing & obsessing about your own eating or others’ eating is a sign and symptom of undereating…
