By a happy accident, we here at CIC discovered that we’ve been voted as one of the top 17 treatment centers for massage therapy in the Colorado Springs area for 2018!

This survey was out of 106 candidates throughout the city, and was performed by Expertise.com, a 3rd party independent review website that takes a strong stance against any form of financial contribution when making their decisions. These 17 locations were selected based off of clientele reviews, as well as a ranking system they have developed that takes into consideration 5 key categories: Reputation, Credibility, Experience, Availability, and Professionalism. Each category represents 5 criteria, for a total of 25 variables that influence whether a treatment center makes the cut in their rigorous selection process. Candidates are then eliminated over a 3 round process, until only these 17 selected locations remained.

A very special congratulations to the hard working massage therapists that represent all of us here at CIC- keep up the good work!

This week's Article is a handy, printable, PDF guide put together by a government program designed to help set standards and appropriate measures for efficient ergonomics in the work place (or even at home).

This guide is designed to help inform individuals on certain ergonomic "do's" and "dont's" to keep your daily routine from wearing your body down, and help prevent chronic aches that may be correctable simply through better alignment of your work and recreation spaces in the technology age.

Today's article touches on a growing issue in America. The prevalence of Diabetes has steadily climbed since as recent as the 1980's. While dietary changes have played a significant role, another study suggests that physical activity is just as important.

Here they have found that increasing overall muscle mass in a body by even 10% can improve blood-glucose self-regulation levels by in excess of 12%. This is in part because the added muscle helps to decrease Insulin-resistance common with those on Diabetes medication, thereby allowing less medication to be required to illicit the same blood-glucose levels, through improving its absorption rate.

This reported from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, and published by the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, just last month. After gathering 50 years of recorded date, covering over 105 randomized U.S. clinical trials; a recent study confirms that utilization of what has been historically know as predominately Eastern-culture treatments has beneficial impact on pain levels. Among these include Acupuncture, Massage, Meditation/Relaxation training, Yoga, and Tai-Chi. More and more Western medicine is making attempts to dial-back the over indulgence in Pill-based medication, and employ additional methods of controlling pain, as an adjunct to - or outright replacement for - prescribing drugs.

Study suggests some popular complementary health approaches—such as yoga, tai chi, and acupuncture—may effectively manage common pain conditions.

This week's article is focused on ergonomics, and what renowned Physical Therapist Kelly Starrett calls being "Deskbound" (For more info on the subject, check out his book by the same name). Mr. Starrett takes a humorous approach to a growing societal problem that he, and others, have begun to identify as an epidemic in our culture. More and more seated, and sedentary, behavior is becoming the norm in many peoples lives- and mobility, stretching, and getting out of your chair are often a major, yet simple, component in people's chronic pain.

Kelly Starrett has many great books on mobility that discuss a basic principle of keeping the body mobile and extensible, and that most aches and pains are your bodies way of alerting you to the problems associated with allowing your body mechanics to become increasingly stiffer and rigid.

Your desk is slowly killing you. Or so believes Kelly Starrett, a physical therapist and author of the new book “Deskbound: Standing Up to a Sitting World” (Victory Belt Publishing, out Tuesday), a…

On Thursday of last week, the United States Surgeon General made history. For the first time, a Surgeon General has collectively addressed Physicians nation wide. He is urging Doctors across the U.S. to participate in tightening down on the Opiod epidemic facing our nation.

In less than 20 years, Opiod based fatalities have more than quadrupled, as an outcome of the drastic increase in being prescribed, and often poorly understood, as a medication for Pain. Often times (1/3 of all cases) these fatalities are a direct result of taking more than 1 form (or multiple) of a prescribed Painkiller at a given time.

It is a direct result of these fatalities, coupled with recent celebrity Opiod overdoses, that this ongoing problem has been considered an epidemic- and public awareness is only just beginning.

Please remember to speak with your Physician about appropriate use of prescribed medications to avoid drug interactions that could lead to significant complications.

The letter, which is the first time a surgeon general has sent a letter directly to American clinicians, asks them to help curb the opioid crisis.
