Continuing our series on instruments of music therapy, today we'll be talking about the lollipop drum. It's called that because it looks like a giant lollipop, but don't lick this one - it's a drum! The lollipop drum has lots of uses in therapy. One can work on gross motor skills from striking the drum, and it's portable enough that you can move around while playing. You can also work on fine motor skills like grasp strength. It's a very sensory friendly instrument - it's very colorful, which helps develop eye-hand coordination, while the striking of the drum provide auditory and tactile feedback. It's a very adaptable instrument, and very easy to play. There are many other ways to use it, and we're always finding more. It's a great instrument for music therapy!
