NBC News - families with children and adults with disabilities affected by Medicaid and HCBS cuts.
Mike Hixenbaugh sent out this nationwide callout to share with the IDD community to tell NBC about your experience with HCBS cuts.
He has been speaking to local families in Colorado and other states about the negative impacts these cuts are having on our families who have individuals with disabilities.
"Across the country, millions of disabled Americans and their families rely on Medicaid to pay for in-home care that allows them to live in their communities rather than in nursing homes.
But these programs — known as home- and community-based services (or HCBS) — are under growing pressure from looming federal cuts, shrinking state budgets and heated political debates. In some states, lawmakers are considering proposals that would reduce services, increase waitlists or limit support.
NBC News is reporting on how these changes are affecting people across the country and want to hear from people directly affected — including family caregivers, people receiving care and service providers.
