If you’ve seen my story, you may already be aware that I wrote an essay about my experience with Lindo. I wanted to make a post about it because I want people to know that the post is open to everyone and I also want to maximize its visibility.

I don’t really have anything else to say on this that I didn’t write down last night (I woke up like literally an hour ago), except that I stand with anyone who has had similarly gross experiences with Lindo regardless of whether or not they discuss them publicly.

As I wrote in the post, part of the reason why I wrote this is because I want to make space for other people to talk about their negative experiences with Lindo and others like them. This is, obviously, much easier said than done.

There are *stakes* involved when we talk about this stuff. People need the jobs, opportunities, and connections that more powerful folks like Lindo have access to by virtue of their privileges identities. People need to eat and pay their bills. That is far more important than any of this for me. My point is: if you have an experience you want to discuss but feel torn bc of the repercussions, I still stand with you.

I am fortunate in that Lindo doesn’t really have anything I need or want. Others are not as lucky.

I don’t know what will actually come of what I shared. I don’t think Lindo will actually be forced to step back—mostly bc they have a pretty devoted fan base that is unlikely to see anything really wrong with the way they treated me. But I think this was an important step in making fat people and the not-fat people who actually really do support us more resistant towards and emboldened against Lindo’s antics and the antics of others like them. And I think that’s valuable.

In fat solidarity (always),
Mikey 💕

Body image research is definitely lacking but we do have an understanding based on the research that tells us about why some people have better body image than others and what qualities, skills, components they have that allow them to have a healthier, more positive relationship with their body. As you read through these ten, it is important to note that even if you do not have these characteristics, working on strengthening one of the ten will help benefit your body image overall even if the other nine still present hurdles and challenges. The message here is this: Healing your relationship with your body is a daunting task and some parts of it feel impossible BUT it is very possible to improve your body image one step at a time.

Let's explore these then characteristics and check out our blog here: https://sidebysidenutrition.com/blog/10-different-characteristics-of-positive-body-image

Read these words at least twice to yourself and take a slow, deep breath:

❤️ WHAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING IS NOT YOUR FAULT
❤️ YOU ARE EXACTLY WHERE YOU NEED TO BE
❤️ YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN WHAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING

Now that you have given yourself the space and time to arrive here fully, please be patient with what is to come. Some of this may feel familiar to you, but other points may be new. Sometimes when we hear new information, our instinct is to challenge it. I would like to invite you to be open to the words below… they just might help you find YOUR answer to the question: “how can I stop binge eating?”.

Try keeping that glass as full as possible every day. This means filling it just a little each day. Often times we can let that glass get empty before we realize the impacts it has on us when it is neglected. By taking care of the caregiver every day, we are able to keep that battery charged and look to that caregiver when we need it most. If we let our self-care routine slip in times when we believe we don’t need it or in times when we feel we are to busy, we have no caregiver to return to and our battery is drained. When we have no caregiver, we tend to be harder on ourselves, have negative self-talk, and can be quickly bummed out.

Think about your self-care routine and ask yourself some questions.
❤️ What are my current self-care routine and current self-care practices?
❤️ What happens when I forget to take care of myself? What are the effects?
❤️ What do I need to change in my self-care routine to better take care of myself?

Try little things. Your self-care routine does not need to consist of big gestures (although it can). Try these:

Take ten-minute breaks every two hours.
Drink water.
Call a friend.
Go for a walk.
Tell yourself you are doing amazing despite it all.
Write in a gratitude journal.
Sleep in.
Buy yourself your favorite coffee.
Let go of thoughts that don’t serve you.

Full recovery is absolutely possible.
