the modern university were coming into fruition; no one person officialy received credit, but at especially at the university, a theory would be proposed, a control and experiment would be done and a conclusion would be made. the germ theory of disease would be addressed in detail around the 1800's. initially robert koch and then louis pasteur deserve credit. once germs such as bacteria, virus, and protozoa were identified, then a cure was searched for. just short of 1900's, germans such as
paul ehrlich who worked at bayer, worked with dyes. fleming from scotland by accident discovered penicillin. after the outbreak of the 1918 flu epidemic research for prevention and treatment of flu began. note vaccines starterd as early as the late 1700's. world war 2 hastened the production of antibiotics to the soldiers. it also hastened innovations such as mash units, the start of iv treatments for treatments of hypovolemia ie after blood loss. it also led to innovations such as the cardiac bypass machine. the military hastened the emergence of specialists. There are many innovations and advances. these are made possible by adherance to the scientific method; the extreme urgency after tragedies such as war or flu epidemic;
and the abilitiy to share /collaborate - as isaac newton stated he was only able to discover as " stood on the shoulders of giants"
