Yesterday, we had someone show up at out door with a newborn baby squirrel that needed to be rehabbed.

Unfortunately, we couldn't help them.
We were contacted today by someone else with a baby squirrel, as well as someone with some baby mice.
We did give them resources.

However, the reality is, 100s of wildlife will go without care and die just in this late summer/fall season, because we have been closed.

Our little miracle patient!! ❤

This gorgeous girl came in as the tiniest baby.
She was injured after not ONE but TWO dogs played with her like a toy.
Sadly, most wild babies handled by dogs don't survive because dogs cause internal injuries.

It was days of holding our breath at first - but this girl overcame all the odds! ❤

She went for release back to the Wild

I had a dream last night about our little porcupine.

I guess you could call it a nightmare since it was also about the raid.

Us taking in the porcupine was one of the reasons we started being harassed by other rehabbers.

At the end of the day, the little porcupine we were caring for would be dead without us.

She was on deaths doorstep when her finders found her, and they were afraid/unable to capture her and bring her in.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife would not go out and rescue this baby.
None of the rehabbers harassing us would have gone out and rescued this baby.
We were the ONLY licensed wildlife center on the Southern side of Colorado that will help pick up or arrange transport.

We had just extended our outdoor enclosure for her 😞
Her outdoor enclosure is 12 ft x 10 ft x 7 ft high.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife knew we were spending hundreds of dollars on her enclosure and continuing to take in wildlife while they assured us things were fine.

Even when they came to raid us, Philip Gurule couldn't just be upfront and tell us what was happening. He refused to answer or tell me what was going on for almost an hour. Why? In my opinion it was another power play, because why can't they just be upfront? Wildlife rehabbers do work for the state for free. We are supposed to have a trusting relationship.

In SEVEN YEARS of operating - We have never been cited or given a written warning from Animal Control or Colorado Parks and Wildlife up until the point they raided us.

I know the porcupine is safe somewhere, I have my ideas where but no confirmation.

This sweet little gal is the pocket gopher that was rescued after being attacked by a cat!

She came in with an injury to her chest, but has healed wonderfully during rehab.

This little love was brought in the day before yesterday after she was found very weak and in need of help.

Funny enough, she is a sibling to one of the other baby ground squirrels we have in care! We know this because the neighbor brought in this girl and when we looked at addresses, they were right next to each other!
