Talking to yourself with kindness and compassion calms down the amygdala – the part of the brain that is responsible for perceiving danger and going into fight-or-flight mode. 🧠 This part of the brain is also in charge of sending pain signals to get attention, as a very effective alarm system. ⏰
When you talk to yourself with judgment, criticism and fear, it further ramps up the perception of danger in the brain, increasing pain and symptoms. It also keeps pain and symptoms stuck in a loop. ♻️
Messages of safety help to move the brain and body out of fight-or-flight, reducing pain and eventually, over time, creating new neural pathways that break you out of the pain-fear loop. 🌟
So talk to yourself as you would a friend or loved one. You deserve it, and your brain and your body will thank you. 💜
