We love seeing where the Vanguard journey can lead. ☺️
Amy Sun started as a medical assistant at Vanguard, and now she is in PA school. Her story is such a special example of how hands-on experience, mentorship, and a passion for patient care can shape what comes next. We asked Amy to reflect on her time at Vanguard, what she learned along the way, and how that season helped prepare her for where she is now.

Vanguard: What originally brought you to Vanguard, and what were you hoping to learn at the time?

Amy: I have always loved dermatology and was interested in Vanguard’s pre-health program! I was excited to learn more about the specialty and gain as much hands-on experience as possible, while also building my patient care experience and strengthening my clinical skills before applying to graduate programs.

V: How did your experience here shape who you are professionally or personally?

A: I absolutely loved my time working at Vanguard - it was such a meaningful period of growth for me both personally and professionally. Working there reaffirmed my passion for medicine and my commitment to becoming a provider who helps patients feel genuinely seen and cared for. I also strengthened my clinical skills and attention to detail, along with my ability to stay composed in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.

V: Where are you now, and how did Vanguard help prepare you for this season of life?

A: I am currently a PA student at Lawrence Technological University in Michigan, and I hope to work as a derm PA once I graduate! I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to work under Emily Reynolds, FNP, she was an incredible mentor who always encouraged me to grow and pushed me to become more confident in my abilities. All of the providers I worked with were incredibly supportive and genuinely wanted to teach you, which made such a lasting impact on me. Vanguard is so special in the culture of mentorship and collaboration that it fosters, and experiences like that can be hard to come by. Looking back, I know I would not be where I am today without the support, guidance, and opportunities I was given at Vanguard.

Give Thanks 2026 is officially here! 🤍

Each year, through Vanguard Skin Specialists and clara (), we have the honor of recognizing charities and organizations that are making a meaningful impact in our community and beyond. This collage is a look back at some of last year’s recipients, whose work continues to make the world a better place.

Applications for Give Thanks 2026 are now open as of April 1 and will remain open until September 1 at 6 PM. Grants this year will range from $500 to $25,000, with award announcements made on a rolling basis throughout the year and final announcements in November.

If your organization is a registered 501(c)(3) or school serving communities in counties where Vanguard has an office, we encourage you to apply. A portion of clara’s profits helps fund this campaign, and we are so grateful to be able to give back in this way.

Vanguard Skin Specialists was founded in the summer of 2009. Dr. Vinh Chung and his wife, Leisle, began the practice with a vision to make it the center of excellence in Colorado for the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. The goal: provide the standard of care found in a major medical center, but in an environment that is accessible, warm, and welcoming to patients. Over time, Vanguard Skin Specialists has grown with additional medical providers and staff members who also believe in Vanguard’s operating principles and values. It’s Vanguard’s people and values that set us apart.

From taking care of underserved populations to sponsoring projects locally and around the world, Vanguard strives to make a positive impact on patients, community, and the world at large.
