About 4 percent of the people on Earth experience a mysterious phenomenon called synesthesia: They hear a sound and automatically see a color; or, they read a certain word, and a specific hue enters their mind's eye. The condition has long puzzled scientists, but a small new study may offer some clues.

About 4 percent of the people on Earth experience a mysterious phenomenon called synesthesia.

Happy ! Did you know humans have two ears for a reason? Having two ears helps us figure out which direction sounds are coming from. If you have hearing loss in one ear, you can probably notice that it’s hard to decipher where a particular sound is located. Therefore, it’s important to use two hearing aids instead of one when hearing loss is present in both ears, to help locate warning sounds around you, navigate safely through traffic, and walk safely across the road. 👂

Inside your inner ear lies a fascinating maze-like structure known as the vestibular system. Located here are three canals with fluid and small hair cells that detect the rotational movement of your head, whether that be up and down, side to side, or tilting. Each semi-circle canal is located at a d...

Everyone gets a song stuck in their head every once in a while. But what’s happening when you think you’re hearing a tune that’s not actually playing? It could be musical ear syndrome (MES), a condition where you hear music or singing when there is none. MES is a condition that causes musical auditory hallucinations, usually related to hearing impairment. It’s not uncommon, but it’s rarely diagnosed. It appears to stem from hearing loss, but the exact mechanism behind MES is a mystery.

Musical ear syndrome (MES) occurs when you hear music even though there isn’t any playing. Learn more about the causes and possible treatments for MES.

Exploring How Brain Handles Speech in Noisy Environments: Scientists from Columbia University, led by Dr. Nima Mesgarani, have made significant strides in understanding how the human brain processes speech in noisy environments by implanting electrodes in the brains of epilepsy patients undergoing surgery. These electrodes allowed the team to record neural activity while the patients focused on a single voice, even when it was obscured by another voice or subdued by it. For most people, our ears work in tandem, delivering sounds as one "unit" to our brain. This is similar to how our eyes work—we see one visual field, instead of two. Yet, for some people, the ears don't interpret noises as a single sound, and they instead experience a condition known as diplacusis.

Diplacusis is a form of hearing loss that causes a person's ears to hear sounds so differently they create a disturbing two-sound experience.

Colorado Springs Ear is the best. Thank you for the great service
I have recommended Dr. Hegerty and his staff before and today's appointment only confirms my A+ rating. I needed to have wax buildup cleaned which was cheerfully and quickly accomplished. Then I had a technical question about hearing television programs. I talked with an audiologist and she fully answered my questions and programed my hearing aids. Thank you Ear Associates.
Every medical professional I saw treated me like an old lady who should just accept hearing loss and leave them alone. Finally, my audiologist, who saw the rapid loss in hearing, recommended I see Dr. Hegarty. That was 3 months ago. He was caring and very knowledgeable, diagnosed my issue, treated my dizziness, and preformed surgery less than 3 weeks ago that is already resulting in greatly improved hearing in one ear. I praise the Lord for every aspect of my treatment from Colorado Springs Hearing Associates and the Audubon Surgical Center. It is wonderful to know what is causing the hearing loss and that it can be treated.

Feeling hopeless and like no one cares about your hearing? Give them a chance to help.
Always attentive to my needs. Allows plenty of time for questions. Professional and yet personable. Great team of staff serving all your needs. Dr. Cassie Lliff goes beyond your expectations in ensuring you receive the best care available. I highly recommend Colorado Springs Ear Associates.
Colorado Springs Ear is great. I got a new hearing that was set up by Sarah. She did a wonderful job. Thanks
As always Colorado Springs Ear Associates were top notch!
I had a minor problem with the tubing on my hearing aid in moments all was taken care of in such a gracious manner. I just want to thank you and say I t is a pleasure to work with you
I just want to testify of the excellent quality and professionalism of the staff and doctors at Colorado Springs Ear Associates. Today I went in for a periodic testing of my hearing with my Cochlear Implant and was excited to learn that my discrimination of words shot up 10 percent in the past 3 months.. Adjustments were made to help me improve even more in my discrimination.

Being I teach some classes, life is certainly has become easier now that I understand more of what is said. Thank you Colorado Springs Ear Associates.
Colorado Springs Ear Associates has always been a place to go for excellent service and products. Whenever you make an appointment you don’t have to wait for them.
It is always a great experience, coming in for care here. From pre-op, surgery and each post-op appointment, there is friendly, prompt and engaging care. The added advantage is that I can now hear out of my right ear! So grateful!
I have never been able to hear over a phone. My cell phone was used to text or access other apps. But after my Cochlear Implant I accidentally but dialed a friend. Seeing my friend's name on the phone, I though she had called me. My friends know better than to call me we just text so out of curiosity I asked, "Why did you call me?"

She replied, "I know better than to call you Sharon, you called me." and that led to a delightful phone conversation that I totally understood.

A whole new world has opened up to me. Thank you, you did a wonderful job.
