Lately, we’ve been reflecting on the beliefs that continue to shape how we show up at Face It TOGETHER. 💚 We believe addiction healing can begin with the family, recovery is rarely linear and caring for each other matters just as much as caring for our members. Thank you for helping us build a different path to wellness for more than 15 years.

Despite navigating stressors and difficult emotions – emotions he used to suppress with alcohol — Jeremiah is enjoying life.

As a mom of a son with addiction, Janice learned an important lesson about the "illusion of control."

“Probably the most surprising thing to me about addiction is how powerless we really are as loved ones. As his mom, I thought I had more ability to make him change,” she said.

"I am not here as a success story wrapped in a bow. I am here as living proof that broken crayons still color, that discarded seeds still sprout, and that a woman once defined by syringes and sidewalks can now be defined by passports stamped, bills paid, and a little girl who calls her mom." Jackie had a beautiful coaching moment this week we'd love to share. 🥰

My loved one member said he is not living in constant crisis and survival mode anymore, and he can get excited about the things he loves again. It's incredible how this is reflected in his body language. He was sitting still, his face was brighter and his smile was genuine.

Pam’s daughter is still struggling with alcohol addiction, but love remains at the center of their story.

“She’s her bright, funny, good self the more alcohol is not there,” she said. "She’s got to believe it too, look at that mirror in the morning and say, ‘I am what I am and it’s going to get better.’ It will be a glorious day when we see some improvement.”

Janice saw counselors, attended support group meetings, leaned on her faith and began working diligently on her own self-care. One of her takeaways was that answers to addiction problems often aren’t black or white.

“I would say things like, ‘He needs treatment. He’s not going to be better unless he has treatment.’ I’d dig in my heels about that,” she said. “What I learned from my coach, Janelle, is most people with addiction stop on their own, but not by themselves."

There are times when Janice still falls into “catastrophic thinking,” but she has longer moments of peace that previously didn’t feel possible.
