Colarelli Construction, Inc.

Colarelli Construction, Inc. Colarelli Construction is a Commercial Contractor and Construction Manager headquartered in Colorado with a wide reach.

We serve clients in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, California, Kansas, and Wyoming. When our doors opened in 2003, we branded ourselves as a boutique-style Construction Manager and targeted under-served projects in the Colorado Springs metro area. Over the past 20+ years, in order to serve our clients’ and the region’s ever-changing needs, we progressed to offer a variety of services and regularly take on roles like development partner, general contractor, construction manager, program manager, and design-builder. We are seekers of innovation; innovation is intertwined with our company culture. Colarelli Construction is continually learning, adapting, and creating changes in the industry to better serve our clients. Recently, we launched our Innovation Initiative program, through which we aim to deviate from our legacy business by evolving and growing along with the technology and the world around us.

👷‍♀️👷‍♂️As seasoned professionals retire, the construction industry faces a challenge: how do we preserve decades of hard-earned knowledge and transmit that wisdom to the next generation of builders?

At Colarelli Construction, we’ve taken this challenge seriously. Our Lessons Learned Database is designed to capture and share insights, best practices, and real-world experiences—bridging the gap between generations, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that critical knowledge doesn’t get lost along the way.

By implementing a digital system that recognizes the way younger generations learn and communicate, we’re not just documenting information—we’re cultivating mentorship, connection, and innovation across our teams.

🏢➡️🏠Could empty office buildings become the future of affordable housing?

As remote work reshapes our cities, downtown office vacancies are opening the door to a new trend: adaptive reuse. Across the country, developers and municipalities are exploring how underused commercial buildings can be converted into affordable housing—with fewer barriers, quicker approvals, and big community impact.

In our latest blog, we dive into:
• Why this movement is gaining traction in cities like Denver
• What makes office-to-residential conversions unique
• How zoning, tax incentives, and sustainability play a role
• Why these conversions are not without controversy

It’s a conversation worth watching—and one that could help shape the future of urban development. Read the full blog:

Nationwide, office spaces sit vacant. Some of these vacancies are tied to the trend of employers permitting hybrid and remote work. Other vacant offices are

👷‍♀️ Listening. Learning. Leading Change.

Colarelli Construction recently hosted a roundtable luncheon for tradeswomen to share their experiences, challenges, and insights from the field. The conversations were candid, inspiring, and deeply important—not just for us as an organization, but for the future of the construction industry.

We heard what drew these women to the trades, what keeps them there, and what they need to thrive. Among the strongest themes:
✅ A desire for community
✅ Opportunities for skills development and career growth
✅ Inclusive, respectful jobsite culture

At CCI, we’re committed to creating a work environment where everyone can succeed. The insights from this roundtable are guiding us as we launch new initiatives to better recruit, support, and retain women in construction.

🌳 On May 30, community came together—and something beautiful took root. Allison Serafin Steere of the Colorado Tree Coalition, architect Mark Tremmel, Randy Wade of Colarelli Construction, and a host of passionate volunteers planted 24 trees (19 different species!) outside the former Helen Hunt Elementary School—soon to be Helen Hunt Family Housing, a transitional housing project for families exiting homelessness.

Colarelli Construction is honored to support Catholic Charities of Central Colorado and this transformative development. Together with Root for Justice and the Colorado Springs community, we’re helping create more than just housing—we’re cultivating hope, sustainability, and second chances.

🏘️ Affordable Housing with Purpose. At Colarelli Construction, we believe in building more than structures—we build solutions. That’s why we’re proud to partner with We Fortify and Harrison School District 2 on a powerful new initiative: Wendy’s Village, a thoughtfully designed community of affordable homes for local educators.

This unique development features 40 duplex units and community-focused spaces—like a neighborhood center and raised garden beds—all aimed at fostering connection and stability for the people shaping our future: teachers.

Wendy’s Village is the latest in a growing list of affordable housing projects we've helped bring to life across Colorado Springs, including:
🏫 The Helen Hunt Family Housing Project (in partnership with Catholic Charities)
🏢 The Sumner House at Draper Commons

Each project reflects our commitment to addressing housing challenges with innovation, collaboration, and heart. 💛

Colorado's housing crisis continues, with many residents priced out of homeownership. Condominiums, offering a more affordable entry point, have seen a drastic decline in construction in Colorado over the past 20 years due to legal and insurance challenges. 🏗️

At Colarelli Construction, we're tracking the most recent bill traveling through the Colorado legislature aimed at addressing this issue. Our latest blog delves into the potential of condominiums to alleviate Colorado's housing shortage.

🚧 Breaking Barriers: Women in Construction. 🚧 The construction industry faces a labor shortage, yet women—who make up 48% of the workforce—comprise only 11% of construction jobs and just 3.3% of trade roles. 🤯
-
At Colarelli Construction, we’re tackling this disparity head-on with our 2025 Initiative: Women in Construction. We believe the industry can do better in attracting and retaining female talent. The question is: How?

💭What needs to change—within our industry, in education, or in societal perceptions—to bring more women into construction?

For the month of November, Colarelli Construction is hosting a food drive to benefit Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. Not only are CCI employees collecting food and funds to benefit our neighbors in Southern Colorado, but we’ve also added a twist to this drive – we’ve invited several of our subcontractors to engage in a friendly competition. The subcontractor that raises the most will get lunch provided for their office (or jobsite of their choice), not to mention bragging rights!

Colarelli Construction is proud to announce Randi Wikoff as the recipient of the very first CCI Innovation Incubator Award. Over the past year, Randi researched both the philosophy behind and the practical implementation of a “Lessons Learned Database.”

CCI’s Innovation Incubator Program was established in 2023 to institutionalize innovative thinking within the organization; the program invites employees to explore ideas that will both improve operations and positively impact company culture.

Driving Randi’s incubator work was the fear that, although CCI’s company culture has always been focused on learning, when those lessons are not documented or retained for current or new employees, we risk both repeating mistakes and losing valuable lessons learned. Thus, her research centered around finding a manner for CCI to document, retain, and disseminate organizational wisdom—and to do so in a manner that would serve as a bridge between the experiences of older generations and the web-based research tendencies of our younger generations.

Randi explored several avenues and technological platforms in order to generate her finished product: a Lessons Learned Database on the newly launched CCI Learning Hub. Thanks to Randi’s efforts, CCI’s new Lesson Learned Database makes technical lessons learned, unique solutions, project strategies, and more information readily available for Colarelli Construction employees on a web-based platform.

As a part of the new CCI “Learning Hub” platform, Randi’s Lessons Learned Database is easily searchable, and searchable through various methods—from locating lessons with keywords to sorting lessons by CSI Division number. It is also a database that is easily updated; as new lessons are submitted, reviewed, and approved for publication, they can be entered into the database in a matter of minutes. Thus, this innovative and dynamic tool is easy-to-use, both by employees searching for knowledge and by those inputting additional lessons learned.

Rather than scouring the internet for a quick answer to a question, this database encourages CCI’s team to search in-house, where we will find an actual Colarelli Construction employee who documented what he/she has learned and who can provide further insight and guidance through conversation and collaboration.

Ultimately, Randi’s Lessons Learned Database connects past CCI experiences to future jobs, so that we avoid repeating mistakes and avoid losing critical lessons that we have already learned to streamline or otherwise improve projects.

We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of Jen Buckley and Jessica Henry in this initiative. Both provided valuable insight and expertise to this process and were integral to the creation and launch. Thank you both.
