The hyacinth bulb did not make the sun shine. They did not water themselves. Yet each basks differently in the elements because of where they were placed in space and time.

The tall, full blooms do not hold more innate worth. Their presentation is simply shaped by placement and by many factors outside their control. Each one carries value.

This is not about hyacinth bulbs.

We are in this position, not because of republicans or democrats or not voting for Kamala. We are in this position because young children are used as play things for rich men without restraint in houses of horror.

And they will (in every sense of the word) blow up the world before allowing their darkness to be named.

May we all begin to understand how far upstream we have to go to find the root of the state of our disunion.

If we will not stand against this, what are we even doing here? May courageous, wholehearted leaders step boldly forward.

May we all:
Show up
Pay attention
Tell the truth
Love well
Not be invested in the outcome

Watching a madman start World War III because Congress won’t stand up to him can feel like how every abused child felt watching one parent overlook the other parent’s evil and asinine behavior.

If you lived this dynamic as a child and feel like you’re reliving it now, but on the world stage, take a deep breath. Remind that precious younger you that you’re an adult now. Really, you are!

Use the influence you have today, in your adult body, to take care of yourself. Find local like-minded folks. We aren’t meant to live this the same way we did as children: helpless, hopeless, alone, rage-filled and frozen.

Your younger self doesn’t have to believe your adult self is here. That might feel like too big of a leap at first. But, perhaps YOU can begin to believe that adult you is here.

Maybe say your actual, chronologic age out loud? (Humor me here)

We can respond differently in the present moment.

Be for your younger self who you needed then. This isn’t just a trite, silly line.

Take some of your attention away from what you can’t control and bring it to what you can. No movement in this direction is too small.

Take care of that little one inside of you who is observing and taking in all the orchestrated chaos. Let them know that YOU are here now. Adult you wasn’t available when you were eight, but you are now.

It doesn’t mean we don’t feel helpless or filled with rage. It does mean you are no longer eight years old.

Big, deep breath, my friend. You are not alone. I see you.

One more big, deep breath.

If you haven’t seen Somebody Somewhere, do! It’s a remarkable show. We’ve watched it twice!

Jeff Hiller, recognized for his role on “Somebody Somewhere,” was one of the night’s most surprising Emmy winners. His moving speech invoked the earnest warmth that made his show so special, Paula Mejía writes:

We don’t believe the 27 (yes, TWENTY-SEVEN) women who have publicly accused DJT of s*xual misconduct. But if a convicted child s*x trafficker who gains limited immunity by sharing the story needed to cover for those in power, then we scream, “Believe the woman.”

To every one of you protecting power and greed...just save it.

Every person who has ever been s*xually assaulted and then not believed feels every ounce of what is playing out. We have lived this horror in real time, in our own bodies.

We’ve watched those who should have protected us defend the perpetrators. People who hid from the truth to avoid rocking the yacht, who sided with abusers to preserve their own comfort or privilege, stood by and pointed fingers at those who were assaulted and suffering.

What’s happening on a national level is something many of us have lived out personally. Those who should have supported us, who should have been horrified by our experience, instead propped up the abusers to maintain their own fragile sense of safety.

Cowardice disguised as patriotism in the name of an American Christian God, is a repulsive betrayal.

Here is what I know for sure: after decades of fighting my own fight on this front (and alongside hundreds of clients), the truth still matters. It always matters.

Watching the most powerful people in the world echo our personal betrayals may leave us feeling sick, angry, or hollow. As we watch all of this unfold, we’re not overreacting. We’re remembering. And in that remembering, there’s strength. There’s connection.

The powerful will continue to lie. The colluding will continue to spin their stories. But we will not forget, and we will not be silent.

We don’t need permission to believe survivors. We don’t need institutions to validate our experiences. As we speak up and rise up, the shame loses its grip. May we keep moving forward...together, clear-eyed and unshaken.

The truth still matters. Tell yours!

A Gentle Invitation for Mothers Navigating Estrangement

This is not a retreat about fixing your child.
It’s not about chasing reconnection.
And it’s definitely not about pretending everything is fine.

This is for you.

For the woman who has lost herself in the silence of estrangement.
For the mother whose heart is both feeling chaotic and terrified.
For the part of you whispering, “but, what now?”

Beyond Frenzied and Frozen is a live, small group retreat (only 9 spots) for mothers of estranged adult children.
Over 4 days, we’ll slow down, soften, and reconnect—with the parts of you that got buried under heartbreak.
Using the gentle, powerful lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS), you’ll begin to reclaim the woman inside the mother.

September 4–7, 2025
All sessions are live, no pre-recorded content
Intimate, only 9 spots

You don’t have to stay stuck between rage and despair.
There is a path forward, and you don’t have to walk it alone.
