Diabetes can affect the tiny blood vessels in the back of your eye — sometimes without you noticing any changes at first. That’s why regular retinal exams are essential for anyone living with diabetes. They help detect early signs of diabetic retinopathy, protect your long-term vision, and guide treatment before symptoms appear.

If you or someone you love is managing diabetes, make sure retinal screenings are part of the routine. Your vision deserves the same care as the rest of your health.

Even though January's glaucoma awareness spotlight is over, the need for ongoing care never ends. Glaucoma is a lifelong condition that requires regular monitoring to keep your vision safe.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been managing glaucoma for years, staying consistent with your check-ins helps us track changes and protect your optic nerve long-term. Early intervention and steady follow-up truly make all the difference.

We’re here for every step of your vision journey.

One of the early warning signs of AMD is when straight lines — like door frames, shelves, or tiles — begin to look wavy, distorted, or “off.” It’s subtle at first, but it’s an important signal from the macula that something may be changing.

If you’ve noticed this, don’t panic — but do schedule a retinal evaluation. The sooner we identify changes, the better we can protect your central vision and help you maintain the clarity you rely on every day.

Your eyes deserve attention when they’re trying to tell you something.

If your eyes feel tired, gritty, or irritated this month, you’re far from alone. February is peak dry-eye season in Colorado — cold air outside and heated indoor air inside both pull moisture away from the surface of your eyes.

Dry eye can affect clarity, comfort, and even your concentration throughout the day. The good news? We offer several solutions depending on what’s causing your symptoms, from lifestyle adjustments to targeted treatments.

If dryness is interrupting your comfort, we’re here to help you find relief.

If driving at night has become stressful, especially with the glare from headlights, it may be more than winter roads — it could be a sign of cataracts. Many patients describe feeling less confident behind the wheel long before they realize their lens has become cloudy.

A cataract evaluation helps us understand what’s changing and what options you have. And don’t worry — we walk you through the entire process so you know exactly what to expect. Your independence matters, and your comfort on the road does too.

If night driving feels different than it used to, we’re here to help.

February may be short, but it’s a great month to give your eyes a little extra attention. With winter dryness, increased screen time, and long nights, your eyes are working hard — sometimes harder than we realize.

A comprehensive eye exam allows us to check your prescription, evaluate your retina and optic nerve, and catch small problems long before you notice changes. It’s one of the simplest ways to prioritize your health as we settle into 2026.

If it’s been a while, consider this your warm winter reminder.

February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month, a perfect time to talk about the part of the eye responsible for the details that make life beautiful — reading, recognizing faces, enjoying colors, and seeing things right in front of you.

AMD can progress quietly, especially in the early stages. But the earlier we detect changes in your macula, the more we can do to protect your vision. Regular retinal exams, a healthy lifestyle, and monitoring your eye health all play a vital role in preserving clarity for the long term.

Your central vision supports everything from reading to daily independence — let’s keep it strong.

If you’ve noticed increased glare, halos around lights, or a subtle “blur” that wasn’t there before, it might be more than normal aging. Cataracts and retinal changes often start quietly — and they can affect things like reading, driving, or seeing fine details.

A quick evaluation can give you answers, reassurance, and a plan. The sooner we catch changes, the more options you have. You deserve to see your world clearly at every age.

Somehow January always flies by faster than we expect. If scheduling your annual eye exam has been sitting on your to-do list, here’s your little nudge! Regular exams help protect against cataracts, glaucoma, retina issues, and even health conditions that show up in your eyes before anywhere else.

Your vision supports everything you do — and a quick exam can help keep it clear and comfortable all year. Start 2026 off strong. 👀✨

Fact: Glaucoma usually has no early symptoms.
It doesn’t cause pain, irritation, or noticeable vision changes at first — which is exactly why regular eye exams are essential. Most people don’t realize anything is wrong until peripheral vision starts to fade.

But the earlier we detect it, the better we can protect your sight for the long term. Even if your vision “seems fine,” routine screenings give us the chance to catch subtle changes before they become problems. Prevention is powerful. 💙

Our Story

Skyline Vision Clinic & Laser Center’s roots date back to 1985 when Britt Buckley, MD, had the vision to bring advanced eye care to southern Colorado. What began as a single location ophthalmology practice has now grown into an eye care powerhouse in this region. In fact, we have helped over 250,000 people improve and preserve their vision over the years – and each patient received individualized care. With locations reaching from Colorado Springs to Trinidad, our incredible team of ophthalmologists and optometrists can treat just about any type of vision problem or help manage diseases with no cure. Our goal is always to protect your precious vision.

Although Dr. Buckley retired from his profession in December 2019, the practice continues to thrive under the excellent leadership of Matthew Chang, MD; James Burden, MD; and Edward Stevenson, DO. Every board-certified doctor and every team member from the front desk staff to our technicians have a unified commitment to continue Dr. Buckley’s legacy and provide top notch, personalized eye care with compassion, respect and honesty.

We stay on the forefront of new technology for procedures such as blade-free LASIK vision correction as well as diagnosis and treatment for dry eye, glaucoma, diabetic eye care, corneal diseases/conditions, cataracts, eyelid surgery and more. If you are searching for an eye care team that can adapt to your changing eye care needs (due to aging, trauma, eye disease, etc.), we would be honored to start along this journey with you.
