April is Sports Eye Safety Month, and it is the perfect reminder that eye protection matters, especially here in active Southern Colorado. 🏔️

From pickleball to mountain biking, fast-moving objects and UV exposure can put your vision at risk. The right protective eyewear helps prevent injury and improves clarity during play.

Not sure what protection you need? Our optical team can help you find the right fit for your lifestyle.

April Fools! 🎉 While carrots are great for your eyes, they will not give you superhuman vision.

🥕 Nutrients like vitamin A, lutein, and omega-3s support eye health over time, but conditions like cataracts or retinal disease require expert care. That is where we come in.

This April, see the difference real eye care can make. 👁️✨

As we head into spring, many people notice that bright sunlight or glare feels more intense than it used to. If you’re squinting more than normal or feeling like details aren’t as crisp outdoors, early cataracts may be developing.

The good news? Early evaluations give us plenty of time to plan, monitor, and guide you through your options long before cataracts impact your daily life. Spring is all about clarity — let’s make sure your vision is ready for the season ahead. 🌼

If you’ve ever looked up from your computer and realized your eyes feel tired or blurry, you’re not alone. When we focus — typing, reading, working on screens — we blink far less often than normal, which dries out the surface of the eye.

The result? Fatigue, burning, and that “I can’t focus anymore” feeling by mid-afternoon. Taking intentional blink breaks (or using the 20-20-20 rule) keeps your eyes more comfortable throughout the workday.

Small habits → major comfort improvements.

Spring is the perfect time for a refresh — and nothing feels better than a pair of frames that match your style and your personality. Whether you love bold colors, minimal neutrals, modern shapes, or classic designs, our optical team can help you find your perfect fit.

And with longer days coming, it’s also a great time to check out new sunglasses or prescription sunwear to protect your eyes from UV exposure.

Your spring look starts here.

Glaucoma management isn’t just a one-time appointment — it’s ongoing, proactive care. Even when your pressures look stable, small changes can happen over time, which is why follow-up visits are so important.

Think of it like monitoring your heart health or blood pressure. Regular check-ins help us protect your optic nerve, adjust your treatment if needed, and stay ahead of changes before they affect how you see.

Your long-term vision matters — and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Every time you read, scroll, drive, or recognize a face — your retina is doing the heavy lifting. This tiny tissue layer converts light into the images you see every second of the day. But because its job happens silently in the background, we often forget how important it is to keep it healthy.

A retinal exam can detect early changes long before you notice symptoms. It’s one of the best tools we have for catching conditions like AMD, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal tears early on.

Strong vision starts with strong retinal health — we’re here to protect both.

One of the subtle early signs of cataracts is a shift in how vibrant colors appear. Patients often describe things looking “a little faded” without being able to pinpoint why. It’s common — and often the very first clue that the eye’s natural lens is changing.

A cataract evaluation helps us understand what’s behind these changes and what options you have moving forward. The goal isn’t just clearer sight… it’s helping you get back to seeing the world in full color again.

If you’ve noticed small changes like these, we’re here to help.

Daylight Saving Time is here! ⏰ As we “spring forward,” the jump in sunlight, driving conditions, and daily routines can also highlight changes in your vision — especially glare sensitivity, dry eye, or trouble adjusting to brightness.

If you’ve been noticing discomfort in changing light or difficulty with early-morning or evening driving, an eye exam can help uncover what’s going on. A quick check-in now can make spring feel a whole lot brighter. 🌤️

Set your clocks… and maybe set an appointment too. 😉

March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month, and whether your “office” is a computer, job site, classroom, or kitchen table, your eyes are doing a LOT behind the scenes. Digital strain, poor lighting, and long hours can all take a toll on comfort and clarity.

A few simple changes can make a huge difference — adjusting screen height, taking short breaks, or using proper lighting helps reduce strain throughout the day. And if your eyes feel tired more often than not, a comprehensive exam can uncover what’s contributing to the discomfort.

Your eyes show up for work every day… make sure they’re supported.

Diabetes can affect the tiny blood vessels in the back of your eye — sometimes without you noticing any changes at first. That’s why regular retinal exams are essential for anyone living with diabetes. They help detect early signs of diabetic retinopathy, protect your long-term vision, and guide treatment before symptoms appear.

If you or someone you love is managing diabetes, make sure retinal screenings are part of the routine. Your vision deserves the same care as the rest of your health.

Our Story

Skyline Vision Clinic & Laser Center’s roots date back to 1985 when Britt Buckley, MD, had the vision to bring advanced eye care to southern Colorado. What began as a single location ophthalmology practice has now grown into an eye care powerhouse in this region. In fact, we have helped over 250,000 people improve and preserve their vision over the years – and each patient received individualized care. With locations reaching from Colorado Springs to Trinidad, our incredible team of ophthalmologists and optometrists can treat just about any type of vision problem or help manage diseases with no cure. Our goal is always to protect your precious vision.

Although Dr. Buckley retired from his profession in December 2019, the practice continues to thrive under the excellent leadership of Matthew Chang, MD; James Burden, MD; and Edward Stevenson, DO. Every board-certified doctor and every team member from the front desk staff to our technicians have a unified commitment to continue Dr. Buckley’s legacy and provide top notch, personalized eye care with compassion, respect and honesty.

We stay on the forefront of new technology for procedures such as blade-free LASIK vision correction as well as diagnosis and treatment for dry eye, glaucoma, diabetic eye care, corneal diseases/conditions, cataracts, eyelid surgery and more. If you are searching for an eye care team that can adapt to your changing eye care needs (due to aging, trauma, eye disease, etc.), we would be honored to start along this journey with you.
