Love is a verb

The ultimate form of love, however, is a verb. It is a state of being love itself, the essence of our true nature. 💥

From Destiny Rose on MONTANICA
Sometimes, you just need someone to believe in you, whether "you" are a person or a critter. A short while ago, I took a leap of faith and took this horse in. The last thing I really needed was another mouth to feed, but his alternative was a hole in the ground. Since he was 8 months old, he has been kept away from other horses. Abuse and neglect were all he really knew. His basic ground manners were horribly neglected, then his owner decided it was time to ride. Unsurprisingly, the ride ended in a wreck. The horse, who had never been allowed to leave home, suddenly was expected to deal with the barrage of strange sounds and smells of being out on a road. He reacted to one of those sounds, his owner over-reacted, and he fell on his rider. The ultimate betrayal for 6 years of abuse almost happened. Owner decided he was a dangerous horse. His burial site was picked out, and he had only a day or two left to live. Relatives of the owner convinced him to give the horse a second chance, which happened, quite grudgingly. "Only if someone could handle the 'dangerous' horse." That was where I came in; I have some experience with horses like him. When I met the horse for the first time, he knew something was wrong. He was dejected and detatched. I suspect he had probably endured several more beatings by then. He had the attitude of an animal that knew it was going to die. I bonded with him almost instantly, and he took a guarded interest in me, and began to perk up. After half an hour, I "proved" I could handle him by, heart in throat, doing something I rarely ever do. I lay across him ba****ck without a halter or anything at all on him, and let him carry me around. Which he obligingly did for another half an hour, no bucking, no spooking, no problems. I don't like to get on a horse I don't know that soon, but it was almost as if he knew I was trying to help him and he played along. The owner, who had predetermined "no one was going to handle the horse" was surprised at how well he took to my subtle cues, and after a little over an hour's work with the horse, had to admit I was doing just fine with him. I had officially earned him back his life. He was mine, but how to get him home? The owner spoke of the 2 times in his life the horse had been trailered as being trainwrecks. I was not looking forward to it. But when the day of his departure arrived, he shrilled in joy when he saw me coming back for him and pranced up to me with a pride more characteristic of what his attitude should be. I led him to my trailer and, amidst lots of pets and praise, stepped in. Lead rope was slack. I wasn't going to force him. He put one foot up, then two, then hopped right in with me. It took less than 15 minures to load him, and I never once had any tension on the lead rope. He was ready to come home. When he got home, however, he was displeased to discover "home" was inhabited by huge 4-legged hooved dragons (other horses). I had anticipated this reaction, and built him his own temporary dorm NEXT to the hooved dragons so he could introduce himself from a safe distance. I also discovered he was partially blind in his right eye, which helped explain the wreck his former owner had had with even more clarity, and helped me make sure he didn't wreck on ME. As the next few days rolled on, sensory overload did its dirty work and the horse came unglued. Bucking, rearing, lashing out, it could all happen at unpredictable times, so much so that it wasn't really safe to be in the pen with him for long unless you had something to dissuade him from running you over with. He was scared, and frustrated, and WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE THOSE HUGE HOOVED DRAGONS?!? I left him his space to finally be a horse, and above all, I refused to believe that he was a dangerous horse. Through everything, he had an air of "goodness" and "gentleness" to him. He didn't want to be mean, he didn't want to hurt someone. He was just overwhelmed. I BELIEVED that. I would immediately correct the bad behavior when I was with him, but otherwise, I let him let all that pent up fear and hurt and frustration out. As the outbursts grew fewer and fewer, he started obsessing over the OTHER HORSES. They were no longer "the hooved dragons", instincts kicked in and he began to long for the touch of another equine companion. So he began having play dates. He would get overwhelmed quickly and paw at the gate asking to come to his own pen again. Finally, he was ready to move in, and he has, and it has gone remarkably well. He is, so far, low horse on the totem pole, but a very happy horse. His eyes are bright and lively again. He doesn't have fits of bucking or lashing out anymore. He doesn't try to outrun me on the halter anymore, he walks at my side and he has learned to stand still instead of dancing circles around me when I stop. Despite having every right to hate humans, he deeply loves his humans and craves attention. He is always ready to accept pets and edible goodies! I have high hopes that a visit to a talented chiropractor may restore his vision, and am trying to set that up. Because someone believed in him, he has a very bright and loved future ahead of him. But as things like this often go, I benefitted, too. He began to believe in ME... having fled a domestic violence situation a little over a year ago, losing almost everything I had, enduring stalking and death threats on top of that, I kind of needed someone to believe in me, too. I started working harder to make sure I had enough for his share of the "emergency vet fund" and his share of the "4 months hay ahead fund." I found I was perfectly capable of taking care of his needs in addition to the others. I am rewarded for my efforts by his going absolutely nuts with joy every time he sees me. Words can barely explain the eager love he packs in to every single greeting. He trusts me and loves me and I love and trust him. Two broken hearts found a way to comfort and mend each other.

In its simplicity, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy begins and ends with the idea that the subtle expansion and contractions of our body, which he dubbed as "the tide," create a blueprint for physiological function. When this tidal movement is in it's full expression, things tend to work better. Our innate capacity to heal - broken bones, stomach bugs, burns, cuts, flu viruses, etc. improves. Rollin Becker says that our physiological function is ALWAYS oriented towards maintaining optimal function. When the system is impinged, it will continue to orient to the health, but in a limited way. As the system becomes increasingly compensated, we experience less of our own vitality. This becomes habituated, and the system becomes fixated in it's less-than-optimal mode. When something eventually gives us trouble, we go to see a specialist who tries to fix our problem so that our knee doesn't hurt, or we sleep better, or we digest better, or so that we can relax. These specialists have incredibly advanced tools to help "fix" the problem, and they often do, but no one has their eyes on the larger issue.

Thus, the job of the biodynamic therapist, by contrast, is to listen for the tide, the blueprint, the health. Rather than get lost in the details of the symptoms, the biodynamic therapist seeks out the "internal physician," the physiologic mechanism, so that the system as a whole can begin to reset from the inside out. In deep listening, in stillness, the whole system re-orients to its own inherent balance, slowly bringing itself out of its myriad compensation patterns. In this mode of working, all kinds of things begin to shift, as the session is integrated. Rollin Becker noted that clients would get off the table and go clean out their garages. Symptoms resolve from the inside out, and alongside them, there are subtle shifts in the whole person, out of compensated fixation and towards coherent integration.

Standing for at least a quarter of the day reduces odds of obesity, new study finds 05/26/2017

Standing for at least a quarter of the day reduces odds of obesity, new study finds

A recent study by the American Cancer Society compared men who sit six hours or more a day to men who sit for three hours or less. The men who sit have a 20% higher overall death rate. Comparing the same 2 groups for women, show that women who sit have a 40% higher overall death rate.
Conclusion: Even going to the gym daily does not repair the effect of sitting for long hours in the office. The primary risk comes from obesity and diabetes, which is often a result of sitting and slumping in your chair, which lowers your metabolism by up to 70%.
PLAN: Stand up more today and gradually increase your standing time to up to 4 hours day. Walk or exercise for at least 1 hour daily. Also make sure you breathe and move while standing and working.
