Taking intentional action is more than showing up to events for photo opps, sharing social media content, or sending emails. Intentional action requires connection with community, providing safe space for all the emotions, and above all else, embracing humanity with love and kindness. You see, when you are doing community work, you are in community both micro-macro prospectively. The work keeps you awake at night, it nudges you to have a courageous conversations, it brings you forward to wear many hats, and to sit in the discomfort of your own mistakes. For me, this picture captures all that I have said. A representation of 7 years of work, continued work, and intentional work. It is with absolute gratitude and excitement to announce our final move is taking place next week.

Over the last 7 years, I have worked alongside several organizations in an effort to;

a) Legalize Certified Professional Midwives (CPM’s) credential to own and operate birth centers

b) Move legislation forward to improve equitable perinatal care in vulnerable communities. .

With that being said, Gov. Polis signed into law the Birth Equity Bill package in July 2021. Currently we are still waiting on the Colorado Department of Health to finalize the legal operations of CPM’s to catch babies in birth centers. However, the formality and language of attending out-of-hospital birth by CPM’s was expanded to include birth centers in the fall of 2021 by the Department of Regulatory Authority (DORA).

After so many years of hard work we were able to purchase our new and permanent facility. While we still have a long way to go, the first step towards our transition begins April 20, 2022. Our new location will be located at 3585 Van Teylingen Drive, Suite G, Colorado Springs, CO 80917. This location is still centrally located off of North Carefree and Academy. We will be operating at normal capacity at the new location; however, we will not be advertising a grand opening until all renovations have been completed.

Additionally, we will also be distributing diapers to the community on April 20, 2022 from 9-10 (clients) and from 10-3 (open to clients and community). We currently have sizes NB-3. I will not be limiting the number of packages families pick up. I am also happy to do size exchanges as well. Diaper distribution will take place at 2130 Academy Circle, Suite D, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

Lastly, I want to thank you for your continued support. AMC is a product of the community we serve. We fully intend to expand services in the future so that we can better serve the entire family. In the meantime, be on the lookout for updates on our social media pages and we cannot wait to share our grand opening with you.
