Have you ever grabbed a sample cookie at the store, bitten into it and discovered RAISINS instead of chocolate chips? Although this can be an unpleasant discovery for many, there is a bright side! Raisins may actually be beneficial to your teeth due to the phytochemicals (antioxidants) found in the sticky dried fruit.

Although it won't completely balance out the sugar in the cookie, it is a better option overall than chocolate chips (though a bit shocking if you were expecting the latter!) :)

New research counters a longstanding public perception that raisins promote cavities. In fact, it suggests the contrary.

Today we cover tooth sensitivity to help your mouth feel the best that it can! Signs of tooth sensitivity can be an intense feeling in your teeth when you're drinking hot or cold liquids, or difficulty brushing & flossing due to discomfort.

The good news is, sensitive teeth can absolutely be treated! Possible treatments can include desensitizing toothpaste, fluoride gel, a root canal, a crown, inlay or bonding. Each case of tooth sensitivity is unique and should be cared for as such, so if you suspect that your teeth may need extra care we recommend scheduling an appointment with us soon.

Today we're extra focused on gum health (who doesn't love healthy, happy gums?!). Unfortunately, gums may not always be feeling in tip-top shape if a case of gingivitis creeps in, which is a very common and treatable type of periodontal disease.

Thankfully, gingivitis can be managed with great oral hygiene! Longer brushing time and careful flossing can get those gums right back into their smile-ready state.

We've all got that little voice advocating for one more sugary treat after dinner, and no one is a bigger cheerleader for an extra bowl of ice cream than the oral bacteria who thrive on the sweet stuff. But your teeth beg to differ!

Sugar can wreak havoc on your smile, increasing the risk of decay over time. The best way to avoid this sweet demise is by limiting intake, and brushing a little extra right after dessert :)

Today, we're stuck on plaque! Plaque is a sticky substance on your teeth that can build up around the gumline. Plaque is full of bacteria who love sugary sweets as much as we do, so it's important to try to remove as much as possible daily in order to avoid buildup.

Cavities are very common, with roughly 78% of adults having had one or more by age 17. Thankfully, modern dentistry has gotten pretty great at fixing them!

The best way to prevent cavities is of course daily brushing, flossing, and trips to see us every six months or so for regular hygiene appointments :)
