“I wish it was just a stress fracture”

No, you probably don’t.

Stress fractures can often expose
-unhealthy relationships with exercise
-eating disorders/disordered eating
-poor training
-other health issues compromising bone health

If you aren’t ready to address those, a stress fracture is not what you want as you are very likely to have more to come.

While I have only had one stress reaction, I have had far too any other injuries. A recurring injury cycle is not fun or something I wish on anyone.

🦴Stress Fractures

These are not just a 6 weeks off and ease back in!

🤿 If you don’t want another, we have to dive into how yours happened. It’s almost always more complicated than you think.

🗣️ Saying you’ll be more mindful in training or fueling is NOT that same as understanding and addressing how you got here in the first place.

This takes a village. PT, coach, dietician, psychologist, and physicians can all play an important role to ensure you are set up long term.

If you don’t know where to start with your recovery, shoot me a DM.

😈Devil on the Divide 50k 2025

My first 50k in the books! Ok…so it was under 29mi per my watch, but with most of the course being between 10-13k in elevation and having 6.7k ft of climbing, I really don’t care.

What an epic day! Still not sure why exactly I signed up or if I really had that much fun during. Wasn’t going to drop though even though I really didn’t feel great. Miss timed the training by about a week and was still absorbing the training.

I think that at least some of this was me trying to regain the fitness and confidence in my body I had in 2022 prior to injuring my ankle. Trying to prove to myself that I could again. Yes, there are some mental health issues to work through. Hit me up if you’re in that space and want to help me.

Despite the numerous question marks around what I could do physically and mentally, there has long been a part of me that knew I could do this. Even when my legs didn’t feel good 9-10mi in, dropping was never a consideration. Something in me told me I had enough to keep moving. To get to the finish line.

Thank god it told me that before the second half. I got worked on that portion! Enough that it frustrates me a little making me want to revisit this. Maybe in 2027…? We will see where life takes us these next couple years.

All in all, now that I am a few weeks removed I can feel the type 2 fun that happened that day. This is a great race and very well done. Stunning scenery even with smoky conditions though that did clear as the day went on. Great post race spread though I didn’t get to enjoy it as I was nauseas for many hours after and unable to eat or drink.

You should absolutely consider getting it on your race calendar!

Dear runners and endurance athletes,

Are you stuck in this cycle?

Many people are. We’re helping people everyday break this cycle of relying on passive modalities that take the locus of control away from you and onto someone else. You have all that you need inside you to manage things independently if you are open and ready to explore it. Won’t be easy, but it will be lasting.

There is nothing wrong with these modalities as a small part of a bigger plan. However, many people (clinicians and athletes) don’t use them in this manner. It’s a mean to address symptoms in the short term and get back to training asap without ever addressing anything meaningful.

If we instead take a step back, address training behavior, acknowledge and account for life stressors, and manipulate supplementary exercises for tissue health…everything changes! Rarely, if ever, will you need these passive modalities.
