Day 6: Aspartame (E951) ☠️🍬 “Sugar-free” doesn’t always mean risk-free.
This is why I read labels like it’s my job. 👀
Aspartame (E951) was classified as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B) by the WHO’s cancer research arm (IARC) and it’s still everywhere.
In July 2023, IARC classified aspartame as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B) based on limited evidence.
At the same time, the WHO/FAO expert committee (JECFA) said the evidence did not justify changing the current intake limit and reaffirmed the ADI of 0–40 mg/kg/day.
The FDA continues to allow aspartame and lists an ADI of 50 mg/kg/day.
✅ Translation: “Possible carcinogen” is a hazard label, not a guarantee of harm at everyday intake, but it’s also not a free pass. Knowledge = power.

Where aspartame HIDES 🕵️♀️
Look for: Aspartame, E951, and blends like “aspartame + acesulfame potassium (Ace-K)”.
Biggest hideouts:
• Diet / Zero / Sugar-Free sodas & flavored waters
• Sugar-free gum + mints
• “No sugar added” puddings, gelatins, dessert cups, drink mixes
• Protein drinks/bars and “light” snacks (check labels)
• Medications + chewables + vitamins (inactive ingredients can include it)
⸻
🚨 Extra important: PKU warning
If a product contains aspartame, labels must warn:
“PHENYLKETONURICS: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE.”
⸻
GodFit swaps (simple + realistic) 🥤➡️💧
• Diet soda → sparkling water + lemon/lime, or unsweetened iced tea
• Sugar-free gum → mint leaves, cinnamon stick tea, or xylitol gum (still read labels)
• “Zero sugar” treats → fruit + plain Greek yogurt + cinnamon (sweet, not neon)

Save this. Share this. Check your labels. ✅
