🕊 Honoring the Life & Legacy of Mareesha Phillips 🕊
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear alumna, colleague, and friend, Mareesha Phillips — an extraordinary doula in the DMV, a proud graduate of The Black Doula Training, and our trusted legal advisor for over 3 years.
Mareesha’s impact was profound. As a doula, she served families with unmatched compassion, skill, and dedication. Her work brought comfort, empowerment, and safety to countless birthing spaces in our community. As one of our alumni, she carried forward the values and excellence we strive to instill, representing The Black Doula Training with pride and grace. And as our legal advisor, she fiercely protected our mission, offered wise counsel, and guided us through seasons of growth and challenge.
“You nurtured with compassion, guided with wisdom, and stood beside us through storms. Your spirit will forever be part of every birth, every student, and every victory we celebrate.”
To honor her forever, August 9th will now officially be recognized as Mareesha Phillips Day here at The Black Doula Training — a day where we observe, honor, and recognize her incredible dedication as a student and as our legal advisor. Beginning August 9, 2026, we will award The Mareesha Phillips Scholarship to a well-deserving student each year, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire future generations of doulas.
Rest in Paradise, Mareesha. Your name, your light, and your love for this work will never be forgotten. 🤍
