Volunteers raised their hand to form a Christmas choir. They left the ballroom and marched back in as a church choir would do back in the day. Great way to conquer fears and be hourself celebrating girls excelling. It was a great fundraiser and award luncheon. We also had a few laughs.

The Breast Cancer Survivorship Foundation is bridging the disparity gap in mortality rates by raising awareness of the importance of breast health as early as 18 years old, to maximize opportunities for care and treatment to allow a survivor to thrive beyond the moment of a diagnosis of breast cancer. Help us reach women in underser6 and underrepresented communities. Donate what you can. Every penny helps.

We all know that a lump in the breast is the classic red flag sign, but that's not what prompted me to get checked out.

Getting ready...The Breast Cancer Survivorship is a proud sponsor of the "Burg" Family Reunion Club celebrating Juneteenth in Leesburg, hence the Burg part. There was no Facebook to post to, Instagram to send word , Twitter to Tweet that all slaves were emancipated. Slavery had ended for African Americans.

I'm an Ambassador and Advocate for breast cancer survivorship hosting a fundraiser at this event to help educate woman on the importance of annual breast screening starting at age 40, younger if needed. Many underrepresented and underserved women cant afford to get screening and diagnostic mammograms in our communities. That's where Breast Cancer Survivorship Foundation is making a difference. Join the celebration happening in Leesburg, Virginia on June 17 fom 11-6 and if you"ve made other plans, enjoy.

My weekend included an amazing Hat Fashion show with the women of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women of Prince William County. We packed the ballroom at the Hilton in Alexandria VA. Good food, good fellowship and an extravaganza of shopping. I had a nice kiosk set up to encourage all women to get screened, especially young Black women and don't wait until you are 40! Did you know that while 92% of Black women agree breast health is important and 35% have discussed it but less than 17% take action. I use my Book and partner with the Breast Cancer Survivorship Foundation to support Black women in need of screening and health services not covered by insurance and those underserved because they lack insurance.

Shout out to Melanin & Pink Ribbons for this:
What is Galantine’s Day you ask? Well, it’s an informal day to recognize and celebrate female friendships. What better time to show your girl tribe that you care than this? I challenge each of you reading this to reach out to 2 of your girlfriends and share anything from the list below with your friend:

1. Remind her to schedule a mammogram
2. Gently share she can practice self-care by performing a BSE-breast self-exam monthly
3. Tell her the value of exercise and a healthy diet
4. Jog her memory to keep up to date with her family medical history it may be pertinent one day

Early detection is self-care. Sharing info within our community is essential to eradicate the stigma associated with the disease. So let’s join together and take the power out of the stigma and replace it with information, and the benefit of early detection.
