"I just had the most pleasant mammogram — seriously, it was like a spa in there!"
– Gini Mason, patient at MUSC Health Women’s Health and Imaging Services in Downtown Columbia

Designed with comfort and care in mind, the new center offers same-day imaging and diagnostic services in a calm, welcoming space, from pink parking spots and fresh flowers to on-site coordination with breast specialists.

Because feeling cared for matters as much as the care itself.

"One of our patients was devastated after realizing his eyeglasses and wedding ring were missing following surgery. Understandably upset, he thought they had been lost forever. After retracing steps, it turned out he had accidentally dropped the bag on the bed while reaching for his phone to call his wife before rolling him to the operating room (OR).

Our compassionate team immediately jumped into action, searching everywhere and involving security. Despite the patient being upset and frustrated, the team remained calm, supportive, and focused on finding a solution.

A special thank you to Tiffany Fludd for going above and beyond. She was willing to go through the OR dirty linens and successfully recovered both the ring and glasses. Thanks to her persistence, the patient and his wife were relieved, grateful, and left with smiles."

Congrats on your recent BEE Award, Tiffany! Thank you for all you do — we're so proud to have you on the team that's !

Thanks to Bee City for sponsoring this award!

Sweetgrass artistry meets healing at MUSC. Seventh-generation Mount Pleasant artisan Daniel Jefferson crafted this stunning installation using sweetgrass grown right here on our campus. The baskets are now displayed in MUSC University Hospital’s lobby as part of our Arts in Healing program, which integrates art into clinical spaces to enhance comfort, connection, and wellbeing for patients and visitors.

For Jefferson, the display has special meaning. “Sweetgrass baskets are the last art form that we as African Americans have that is still prominent today. This is an honor for my family and my community. It’s not about me; it’s about the hundreds of weavers to know that our baskets are being represented. It’s a gift that gives people hope and joy.”

Big things are happening in Florence!

MUSC Health Florence Medical Center recently held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate major renovations to its Emergency Department.

These updates were designed with patients and families in mind, creating a more efficient, comfortable space for emergency care when every second counts. The modernized design also supports our care team with enhanced technology and expanded capacity to meet the needs of our growing community.

Only about 3,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) each year, a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In February, Rich Maxwell became one of them, facing not only a cancer diagnosis but a lifelong chronic condition.

Fortunately, at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, he found a multidisciplinary team of dermatologists and oncologists providing specialized care available nowhere else in the state.

“I truly believe in this team because they're going after my disease,” Maxwell said. “They're doing things that are appropriate for my condition, but they're not holding back either.”

Read his story:

An uncommon cancer diagnosis was unwelcome news upon retirement. But Rich Maxwell found a focused team at Hollings Cancer Center.

MUSC Health’s Trauma Programs were well represented at this year’s South Carolina Trauma Symposium, the state’s largest educational and injury prevention event, with participation from all 17 trauma centers.

From complex ICU case reviews to burn care discussions, our teams shared expertise and connected with peers across the state. We’re proud of our trauma nurses, nurse practitioners, and surgeons who represented MUSC Health Charleston at this important statewide event.
