Healthy Blue South Carolina

Healthy Blue South Carolina We have a name you can trust. When you cover yourself in Blue, it’s all about you. We have a history of caring. We launched our first HMO in 1984. government.

In 2008, we added our Medicaid option for people who are eligible in South Carolina. When we first went live, we were in 34 counties with fewer than 10,000 members. Since then, we are proud to say we have grown to be in every county in the state. Our main focus is you. We make sure:
• You have low copayments for visits to doctors and for generic or brand drugs.
• You get free extra benefits like a free cellphone with free monthly minutes, data and text messages; a reloadable card to use at certain retail stores if you get your checkups; free car seat; girl scout membership; boys and girls club membership and free books for your young child.
• We have a prenatal program for moms-to-be.
• We also have a nurse help line you can call 24/7 to talk privately about any health topic. Or you can get help deciding what to do or where to go for a health problem.
• Our local staff can help you. Community Resource Coordinators help match your needs with local resources to get you the right care.
• When you need one, you get a case manager. A case manager will work with you and your doctors to help you take care of health issues like asthma, diabetes and pregnancy. The holidays are full of yummy food and fun parties! But it's also good to eat healthy. Healthy Blue is here with some tips to help you enjoy the holidays and eat smart:

- Pay attention to your body: Notice when you're starting to feel full and stop eating. Don't eat too fast.
- Don't take too much food: Use smaller plates and don't pile your food too high.
- Eat lots of fruits and veggies: Make sure to eat colorful fruits and vegetables with your meals and snacks.
- Drink lots of water: Drink water during the day, especially before and while you eat.
- Don't skip meals: If you skip a meal, you might eat too much later.
Make healthy swaps: If you can, choose baked or grilled food instead of fried food.
- Choose whole-grain bread instead of white bread.
- It's okay to have treats sometimes: You can have some holiday treats, but don't eat too many.

Have a happy and healthy holiday season!

This holiday season, let's prioritize mental health. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, but taking a moment to check in with yourself and your loved ones can make a big difference.

Here are some simple ways to check in:

- Ask open-ended questions: Instead of "How are you?", try "How are you really doing?"
- Listen actively: Give your full attention and show genuine interest.
- Offer support: Let them know you're there for them and offer practical help if needed.

If you or someone you know needs support, here are some helpful resources in South Carolina:

- In a crisis, dial 988 or visit 988lifeline.org.
- SC Mobile Crisis (24/7 statewide crisis intervention): (833) 364-2274
- South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH): https://osp.scdmh.org/
- NAMI South Carolina: https://namisc.org/
- SC Hopes Line: (844) 724-6737

Feeling blue around the holidays? Don't worry—you're not alone. Many people experience the "holiday blues" - a temporary feeling of sadness, anxiety, or stress during the winter months.

Here are some tips to help you navigate the season:

✔️ Stick to your routine: Changes in your daily schedule can disrupt your sleep and mood. Try to maintain your regular sleep and exercise habits as much as possible.
✔️ Prioritize sleep: A good night's rest is essential for managing stress and emotional well-being.
✔️ Set realistic goals: Don't overwhelm yourself with trying to do everything. Set achievable goals for yourself and your family.
✔️ Make time for relaxation: Schedule activities you enjoy, such as reading a book, taking a warm bath or spending time in nature.

Remember, the holiday blues are temporary. Be patient with yourself and take things one day at a time.
