3 key things from this photo to keep in mind for your labor + birth (and why they matter!) ⬇️
✨ birth/exercise ball
Usually provided at the hospital, though not always, so check with your birth location! This is a wonderful tool for movement + positioning in labor. Keeping your pelvis moving and grooving helps baby rotate and descend through your pelvis (KEY to labor!). A few ways to use the ball:
• Sit and rock hips side-to-side
• Sit and rock front-to-back (tuck tummy/poke b***y)
• Do figure 8’s with your hips
• Kneel with one leg up/rest your arms on the ball
• Lean over the ball while on your knees
✨ yoga mat
MOVEMENT is everything (you’ll hear me say this on repeat)! It’s also an amazing coping tool, physically and mentally. Staying free to move can help your body progress naturally, versus tensing up and holding still (like gritting teeth or clenching fists). Try hands and knees, lunges, or whatever feels right in the moment.
✨ your own clothes/shoes + personal items
You don’t have to wear the hospital gown if you don’t want to! Wear what makes you feel most comfortable: your own gown, nursing bra (cute if you want!), or nothing at all. Don’t forget flip flops/slips if you’re walking or laboring in the shower (another coping tool!)
Bring personal touches: photos, affirmations, even artificial flowers, anything that makes your space feel like yours 🌷 Because how you feel mentally 100% IMPACTS how you feel physically in labor.
Your labor is yours to remember and take with you. Make it feel safe, supported, and ultimately YOURS 🩷 If you had any specific coping tools or comfort items at your labor, what were they and how did you use them during your birth experience?? 🤩
