I want to thank everyone that supports, donated, and prayed for our journey into Burnsville NC, thanks to your generosity we were able to get supplies up to Shoul Creek Baptist Church, From this location hub, supplies are being taken into deeper parts of NC that aren’t having supplies delivered. The towns are truly coming together in this time of need! Yet, sadly enough the true preservation of these communities is yet to come.. without power, water, and the grocery distribution factory being flooded, supplies will run out fast. These communities are raising money to dig wells just to survive the upcoming cold weather.. in the coming months, they will need blanket, warm chlothes, pillows, sleeping bags, safe cooking stations, and food replenished to sustain life in these areas.. I am adding a direct link and contact in the comments section to shoals creek Baptist church.

Together we were able to band together to help shovel mud and river muk out of a general store that was deviated with damage, with 5 families living within the store and surrounding buildings we joined in to give these people a moment to breathe and collect themselves.. volunteers are needed for these areas in a massive way, the impact of this storm will take years to repair, and every small task that one person can accomplish is a massive help. If you’re interested in being a boots on the ground volunteer, message or email us at soberandfree803@gmail.com and I will get you in touch with local contacts to find ways you can serve.

We also got to watch a true blessing with Stephanie at Final Victory Animal Rescue, drive her passion to help the animals in need during these trying times. Together with her following and team she was able to collect so much food and necessities for the animals in need, she was able to locate the Yancey humane society, who is hand delivering food and supplies to animals in need around them. Following her purpose passion and helping the only way she knows how.

Thank you again for your continued support.

As we assess the wreckage left in the aftermath of hurricane Helene that ravaged our part of the country, our focus has shifted to some of the smaller counties in our state that have had catastrophic damages. With media attention focused on other areas. Families in these smaller parts of the state are left without homes, entire counties left without power, food and fuel becoming scarce. Shelter filling quickly and many not allowing pets. We have decided to shift our focuses and postpone our care kit drive. We are redirecting our small amount of resources to more troubled areas needing immediate help. This Sunday we will be traveling to the upstate area to setup, hand out our care kits and see how neigbors can help neigbors. We appreciate your continued support and are still accepting donation items to take with us.

Ironically, to be on the side of the road picking up beer bottles and litter strewn about feels good. To chip at amending the carefree and reckless lifestyle that once enveloped my way of living, led me to be the very one laughing as I threw my empties on the side of the road for someone else to deal with.. luckily.. I am still here to have the chance to change my behaviors and learn to give back and be useful to those around me.. so many lives are lost, and forever changed because someone is out living that carefree way today.. not only are lives cut short by driving under the influence, but families are left grieving and picking up the pieces wondering how to move forward.. that’s why foundations like are so important and will forever have our support.. while we strive to help those fighting addiction find a way out.. SKMF advocates to help those who didn’t have a choice.. Through grief and emotional support, to physical and financial support.. To help spread the awareness and dangers of driving intoxicated through community outreach and sadly enough, living through tragedy themselves.. 12 bags of trash off the side of the road doesn’t seem like much.. but to the family that lost a loved one on that very stretch of highway, it’s a way to memorialize them, still take care of them, and continue to remember what SKMF stands for. There are plenty of opportunities to join a team, or be of service in your local communities for great causes.. feel free to reach out and volunteer in simple ways to make big changes in our very own communities. As always, if you or a loved one is struggling with substance abuse, struggling with grief, or want to be of service in any way.. feel free to contact us.
