What is pelvic floor physical therapy?
Specialty area of physical therapy that is focused on the treatment of dysfunction of the muscles of the abdomen and the muscles that support your bowel, urinary, and reproductive systems. Your pelvic floor muscles act as a sling/hammock that support the spine, the bladder, re**um, and uterus in women.
Signs of a problem:
Painful S*x, Painful C-section scar, Accidental loss of bowel or urine, Re**al pain, Ge***al pain, Constipation, hip/back and abdominal pain during and after pregnancy, going to the bathroom >7-8x/day and >1x/night, Persistent “Mommy Tummy”/ “Baby Bump” after pregnancy,
How did I get this problem?
Muscles in the pelvis are just like the muscles in the rest of your body can become weakened, too tight, or overstretched. This may be due to:
Hormonal changes during pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause.
Physical effects from: weight gain, heavy lifting, direct injury to the pelvis, & gynecological surgeries.
How will physical therapy fix my issues?
Physical therapy will help bring you more awareness, coordination, and control of your muscles. You will also learn proper body mechanics, postural education, education in self-management and prevention, and much more!
