To celebrate National Volunteer Month in April and National Volunteer Week from April 20 – 26, we’d like to share more details about how you can choose to volunteer at Maury Regional Health!

When it comes to being a volunteer at Maury Regional Medical Center, the opportunities are endless. More than 200 volunteers freely give their time and talents serving at Maury Regional Medical Center. However you choose to give back, we have a path waiting just for you.

The Volunteer Services Program is thriving at Maury Regional Medical Center! Since 2021, the number of volunteers serving our medical center has increased 34% and we’re continuing to grow!

For more than 70 years, our volunteers have also been members of the MRMC Auxiliary, a separate fundraising entity. As times have changed, so has the role of hospital auxiliaries nationwide. As a result, the MRMC Auxiliary — not the volunteer program — will be dissolving. The funds previously raised by the Auxiliary will continue to benefit this community as they are transferred to the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation, which has worked to expand health care and community outreach services throughout southern Middle Tennessee since 2006. We are immensely grateful to the Auxiliary and its members for their contributions, having raised more than $2.5 million in support of projects at the medical center, including support for the mobile medical unit, Care-A-Van shuttle service, scholarships and K-9 security units.

We continue to offer exciting volunteer opportunities and will hold fundraisers, with proceeds benefitting the general fund of the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation. Congratulations Maury Regional!!! The Volunteers are excited about this new journey! The Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, which organized before the hospital even opened its doors, has been a constant presence at the facility. By the time the first patient arrived on December 16, 1953, there were already more than 120 volunteers!

Among those was Dot Sowell, who volunteered until her passing in September of 2021. Our volunteers today, just like Ms. Dot, impact countless lives and brighten the day of so many who face the challenge of a health issue. In addition, this group has provided more than $2.5 million in financial contributions to the medical center through various fundraising efforts by volunteers.

As much as Ms. Dot embraced this organization and community with a genuine heart, I know she is smiling down on each of us knowing we are continuing to make a difference in the patient experience and meet the changing needs of her beloved town with these beautiful renovations.

Join us for an upcoming jewelry and accessory sale to benefit the Maury Regional Auxiliary and Volunteer Program. The sale begins Sunday, November 6 at 9 P.M. and runs day and night until Wednesday, November 9 at 3 p.m. in the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary conference room.
