Central Maryland Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Recommendations for COVID-19 Virus and Oral Surgery Procedures
We are monitoring the updates from the CDC for our patients on a daily basis.
The COVID-19 virus should be taken seriously, but it should not prevent the healthcare delivery for our patients.
Therefore, we are following the CDC recommendations which states:
“It is critical for healthcare facilities to continue to provide care for all patients, irrespective of COVID-19 infection status, at the appropriate level (e.g., home-based care, outpatient, urgent care, emergency room, or hospitalization). Facilities may need to respond to a surge in patients requiring care.”
We currently know is the:
The highest risk group for hospitalization is the elderly with multiple medical problems, and those who are immune compromised or immune suppressed.
The healthy patient is low risk for hospitalization, and display minimal symptoms.
There are 330 million people in the U.S.
A total 1,629 confirmed cases in the U.S.
A total of 41 deaths (26 from Washington State nursing facility) in the U.S.
There are 6 million residents is the State of Maryland
A total of 26 confirmed cases, 0 deaths, no cases in children.

Central Maryland Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is an outpatient facility.
Our surgical team is always following universal precautions for patient and staff safety to protect against air-borne and blood-borne pathogens (e.g., virus, bacteria and fungus/spores).
All instrumentation is sterilized after each use.
Autoclaves are spore tested to ensure the highest level of instrument sterility.
Staff always follows hand washing protocols.
Patients are supplied hand sanitizers before and after surgery.
Staff wears surgical gloves, protective eyewear, and surgical masks.
Surgical suites are surface sanitized with cold sterilization, including surgical chairs, countertops, and door handles.
Surgical head rests are covered in disposable plastic head rest covers.
Surgical light handles and surgical equipment are also covered with disposable plastic barriers.
We are scheduling patients in a manner which limits public contact in the reception area.
The reception area also has sanitizers, and surface wipes available for patients and family.
Lastly, we are also:
Rescheduling non-urgent outpatient visits as necessary.
Reaching out to patients who may be a higher risk of COVID-19-related complications to reschedule non-urgent visits (e.g., elderly, those with medical co-morbidities)
Recommending any symptomatic patients seek COVID-19 testing immediately.
“We are committed to serving our patients and their families, and will continue our pro-active approach during these challenging times”
