It’s not often that we are asking our followers for prayers, but our team of volunteers could certainly use some. Usually, this group is taking prayer requests from clients, and praying with intention for whatever is on their hearts. In recent weeks, many of our volunteers have been dealing with sickness, injury, and grief -and we’d love it if you could return the favor by saying a little prayer for them. We pray they will be healed and comforted during difficult, trying times. We believe in the power of prayer! Will you join us? 🙏🏼

The Board of Directors of Birthright of Columbia is pleased to announce that Rebekah Shilling will be its next Executive Director, replacing retiring Executive Director, Terry Hodaly.

Rebekah Shilling has spent more than 15 years supporting families across South Carolina in the areas of maternal and child health, early development, and community support. Her work has included prenatal and postpartum case management, fatherhood engagement programming, and statewide initiative leadership. She has led regional learning collaboratives to bring further knowledge to Community Health Workers across the Southeast, helped in the founding of the Men’s National CHW Alliance, and assists in training Community Based Doulas across South Carolina.

Rebekah holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology and a graduate certificate in Play Therapy, along with multiple certifications in family planning, postpartum support, lactation counseling, child passenger safety, infant massage, and community health. Her passion for compassionate, judgment-free care is shaped not only by her professional experience, but also by her own journey. During a vulnerable season of her life, Rebekah received support from Birthright, an experience that deepened her faith and reminded her that children are truly a blessing, and women are not meant to walk through pregnancy alone.

Outside of work, Rebekah enjoys hiking, spending time with her son, and caring for her pets. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve at Birthright and to help families and communities thrive through faith, support, and practical care.

We are excited to see where Rebekah will lead us!

Honored and grateful 💛 Birthright was recognized at the Prisma Health Midlands Healthy Start Consortium End-of-Year Celebration, and we were so thankful to welcome Shakera Washington Harris, Consortium Coordinator, who recently stopped by Birthright to present Terry with a token of appreciation.

Midlands Healthy Start is a community-based initiative working to reduce gaps in infant and maternal health outcomes, and we’re proud to partner alongside their team year after year to ensure our moms have access to the very best resources in the Midlands.

Thank you, Prisma Health Midlands Healthy Start Consortium, for all that you do—and for your continued partnership with Birthright of Columbia.

A clean baby is a happy baby 💙 🩷 Birthright of Columbia could use your help! We are in need of baby shampoo, baby lotion, and diaper rash ointment. We are accepting all donations for both babies and pregnant women, but it seems we are always running low on these items in particular. If you happen to be out shopping and are able to grab a few extra, or want to ship some directly to our office, we'd be oh so grateful! 🙏

We have some amazing knitters in our community, but do you know what knitters really need? Yarn! 🧶 If you have leftover yarn laying around from a previous project, or maybe you just bought more than you needed, we would love to take it off your hands. If you're out shopping and see a great deal on yarn, why not scoop some up for our team of knitters?

All of you yarn that you donate will eventually be used to warm and snuggle our precious babies, in the form of booties, blankets and caps. How sweet is that? 🥰

Next Monday, we will be closed to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King’s message was one of hope and peace; something we could all use a little more of these days.

We are ALL united by our common desire to live in peace and harmony. Our differences make us unique, not adversaries! Let us reflect on these ideals in the coming days, and commit to helping one another in times of need.

We loved welcoming back our office volunteers this week, after the holidays. They are truly the heartbeat of our organization, and often the first person a client meets when they come to us for help. They offer compassionate, confidential, non-judgmental help to anyone who calls or walks through our door.

If you too have a heart for serving this community, and wish to be a beacon of light and hope when a woman needs it most, we’d love to have you join the team! We only ask that you commit to a minimum of one three-hour shift each week. We currently have four openings to fill. Visit our website to learn more, or call us to get started! If your goal in 2026 is to give back, we sure could use your help. 🩷💙🤍
