"Do you offer Deep Tissue Massage?"
Let's chat! ... 🤔 What is "Deep Tissue Massage"?
Years ago, the spa industry decided we needed a way to charge more 💲 for deeper work. That was when the label "Deep Tissue" first began.
The term "Deep Tissue" is very vague and could mean so many things. What clients usually mean is "Can you give deep pressure in a massage?"
At each of my clients' appointments, we talk about the goal for the session. You are always in control of the pressure. The amount of pressure you want could be different depending on what area we're working in that moment. For example, you may want my elbow between your shoulder blades, and can only handle light work on your calves...and guess what... You don't have to pay more for pressure! You pay for the time we have together - not the techniques used. 🤷♀️
Another really common misconception is that massage needs to push past your pain tolerance to create change.
👎 Merrrrr. Wrong.
Massage doesn't have to hurt to be beneficial. I'm a firm believer that "no pain, no gain" doesn't have to be the way. 🙌
Our bodies are incredible; they store memories of physical and emotional trauma. From the muscles, all the way down to the cells, our body remembers. 🤯 Sometimes if we push past the pain barrier, the body guards against the work in an attempt to prevent another injury. This can be so counterproductive!
A great way to really feel the full benefit of your massage is to focus on your breathing. This brings oxygen to the body, helps promote blood flow and can ease you into a deeper relaxation. When the muscles are relaxed, we can work deeper.
