Today, in observance of World Breastfeeding Week, Maury Regional Health is sharing awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.
Breast milk offers significant nutritional value and helps to create immediate bonding between mothers and babies. Breastfed babies also have reduced rates for asthma, obesity, type 2 diabetes, ear and respiratory infections, sudden infant death syndrome and gastrointestinal infections. Plus, breastfeeding can lower a mother's risk for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and breast or ovarian cancer.
To help parents navigate their breastfeeding journey, Maury Regional Health offers lactation services that include extensive breastfeeding education and support for mothers while they are in our care and after they have returned home with their baby. This support is offered by our board-certified lactation consultants and highly trained nursing staff.
