Age-Related Macular Degeneration or AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in adults over the age of 50. This eye disease occurs when there are changes to the macula, a small portion of the retina that is located on the inside back layer of the eye. There is no specific treatment for AMD, however studies have shown the benefits of vitamin supplements, a healthy diet and cessation of smoking. February is AMD prevention month, listed below are early stages to help detect macular degeneration as early as possible.
Gradual loss of ability to see objects clearly.
Shape of objects appears distorted.
Straight lines look wavy or crooked.
Loss of clear color vision.
A dark or empty area in the center of vision.
