He moved to Charleston, SC and began practicing yoga in 2002. He received his yoga certification and began teaching in 2003 at Gaea Yoga and Blue Turtle Yoga in Charleston. He moved to Columbia in 2007 and began teaching yoga at Hampton Hill Athletic Club. Mitchell has taught yoga one-on-one with world class trainer Ken Taylor, who is a striving pro-am golfer and also the trainer for the USC Golf Team. He has taught yoga one-on-one with Richard Seymore, defensive tackle for the Oakland Raiders. He has also worked with marathon runers, shaving time off their runs. He also works one-on-one with clients who suffer from medical issues, such as arhtritis. Mitchell is now in his 3rd year of being the yoga instructor for the USC Equestrian team. If asked what kind of yoga he teaches, he will answer all types because yoga means "yoke" or "union" and there is only one body, so there is only one asana(body/pratice). With Mitchell's background in sports and athletics, martial arts and the outdoors, along with music, he brings a lot of this experience to the classroom. He believes it is not about how much yoga you have done, but how you relate the yoga to your life. Grass Roots Yoga began as a small group of women looking for a one-on-one approach to yoga. After three years of growth, Grass Roots Yoga has moved into a new space to accommodate more classes and different yoga opportunities.
