Heart disease risk increases for women during perimenopause and menopause as estrogen levels decline. Symptoms like chest tightness, fatigue, dizziness, or nausea shouldn’t be ignored.
It's important to learn how to recognize warning signs, reduce your risk, and how a cardiac calcium score can help detect heart disease early.
Kudos to Boone Health’s Community Wellness team for providing health screenings throughout February in recognition of Heart Health Month. This year, the team delivered meaningful education by reviewing any out‑of‑range results with participants and directing them to their healthcare providers, or to Boone Health, for appropriate follow‑up. Approximately 300 screenings were completed, with 26% of participants referred for follow‑up based on their A1C results and 33% referred for blood pressure follow‑up.
We sincerely appreciate the financial support of the Boone Hospital Foundation and the partnership of the community organizations that welcomed us into their sites. Reaching and screening this many individuals would not have been possible without their collaboration and support.

The Boone Health Community Wellness team will embark on a tour of mid-Missouri to offer free “heart healthy” screenings as Heart Health Month 2026 comes to a close. The screenings provide immediate results for blood pressure and A1C tests. Results will be reviewed and discussed with participants. If results are outside the normal range, lifestyle modifications will be discussed and/or a referral to a healthcare provider will be made.
If the results indicate any type of risk, the Boone Health nurses will provide options for seeing a provider.
The screenings will take place in several mid-Missouri communities:
