Allow me to let everyone in on a little secret here. It's a little thing called IIFYM. It means that no matter what types of foods you consume, as long as the foods fit your macros and calories for the day; the types of foods you chose have no direct effect whatsoever on body composition. That is correct! You can eat donuts, poptarts, pancakes and still lose weight.
NOW......this is BECAUSE of the GLYCEMIC INDEX. It is thought that if you consume large amounts of sugar or fast acting carbohydrates (poptarts, cupcakes, and donuts), that your insulin will spike and the food will JUST MIRACULOUSLY store as fat. WRONG. The studies done on the glycemic index were done in a FASTED state. So, the results found are almost completely irrelevant for dieting and bodybuilding purposes. There is constant rise and fall of insulin all day long every day. It has no direct effect on body composition. All the matters is that Protein + Carbs + Fats = Daily allowance or goal of calories. (However some food choices ARE going to have other benefits outside of body composition, such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber).
The thought of the general public is that if they eat "healthier", and just stick to the traditional chicken, brown rice, and broccoli, then they are going to start losing weight and getting good results. This is just not true. This is why 90% of people (including myself) will fail on a diet, because they won't be able to control the mental part of the sugar cravings, give in, binge eat, and end up worse off than when they started. IIFYM fixes this problem by removing your cravings and is 1000x more healthy mentally.
THEREFORE eat WHATEVER your heart desires, as long as it fits your macronutrient totals and calorie totals at the end of the day.
