If you are in crisis, please dial 9-1-1 or go to your nearest emergency room. The Psychology Services Center (PSC) is a psychological health treatment center run by the Psychology Department of the University of South Carolina. Services offered at the PSC include: assessments, child, adolescent, and family therapy, individual adult therapy, couples therapy, and group therapy. The therapists at the PSC are doctoral candidates in the Clinical-Community or School Psychology Graduate Program. Each therapist is supervised by a licensed clinical or licensed school psychologist who is a faculty member of the USC Psychology Department. The PSC provides services to children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples with a wide variety of problems. The services at the PSC are designed to provide clients with the highest quality, evidence-based treatments available at little (or no) cost to the client depending on ability to pay. Our behavioral health services are designed to support individuals, couples, and families and help them successfully navigate change. When needed, clients are provided with necessary case management and coordinating services with medical doctors, advocates, and other relevant community partners. Therapists work closely with faculty supervisors and develop an intervention plan that is consistent with the latest relevant research but that is also tailored to meet the varied needs and goals of our clients. Our client-centered approach allows clients to be active agents in setting and achieving individualized treatment goals--we believe that clients have a unique understanding of their strengths as well as their weaknesses, and are key change agents in the therapy process. The adult services at the PSC are helpful to both individual adults and couples. Some of the most common problems presented by our adult clients are:
- Adjustment to difficult life circumstances (e.g., divorce, loss, work stress)
- Depression
- Nervousness or anxiety
- Interpersonal and communication problems
- Coping with life changes
- Traumatic responses to highly threatening life events
- And More
Child and family services at the PSC are designed to support families, children, and adolescents struggling with academic, behavioral, social, and emotional concerns. Currently the PSC offers behavioral health assessments and interventions, as well as psychoeducational and autism assessment services. Our child and family therapists work closely with parents because we believe that parents are experts on their children and are key change agents in the assessment and therapy process. Some of the most common problems we provide intervention services to children for include:
- arguing or fighting
- coping with life stresses
- difficulty following directions
- difficulty paying attention
- nervousness or anxiety
- feeling down or depressed
- And More
