🚶‍♂️❤️ Our Hermitage clinic is fundraising for the American Heart Association - Tennessee's Middle Tennessee Heart Walk on September 20th in honor of their patient, Clifton Lide! ❤️🚶‍♀️

After a life-threatening heart attack in 2021 that led to bilateral amputation and a 6-month hospital stay, Clifton came to our Hermitage clinic weak but DETERMINED. Today, he's conquering life every single day! 💪

From our clinic director: "His will to live inspired me and those in the clinic with him! He's pushed sleds, done battle ropes, mastered balance challenges, and even taught me frisbee golf! They assist women and their children who are overcoming addiction, abuse, and economic hardship, helping them transform their lives in mind, body, and spirit.

Their program emphasizes the recovery of both the mother and the child, providing hands-on coaching for mothers learning to parent their children while sober. Blue Monarch believes destructive cycles can be broken, families can be healed, and freedom from addiction can be found through Christ.

Since 2003, Blue Monarch has served over 1,000 women and children, successfully reuniting more than 370 children with mothers who had previously lost custody.

This week was American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Capitol Hill Day 2025! We are proud to share that our Franklin Clinic Director, Tom Mork, was among the delegation from APTA Tennessee that attended APTA Capitol Hill Day. Tom met with legislative staff from the offices of Congressman Mark Green, Congressman Andy Ogles, Senator Bill Hagerty, and Sen. Marsha Blackburn to advocate for crucial healthcare legislation.

Key Legislative Priorities Discussed:

Medicare Reform - Supporting the recent 2% payment boost to the Medicare physician fee schedule and continuing the fight for long-term solutions that include adding an annual inflationary update to prevent future cuts to Medicare.

SAFE Act (H.R. 1171) - The Stopping Addiction and Falls in the Elderly Act would trigger an automatic referral to physical therapy for Medicare patients with a history of falling during annual physicals and wellness check-ups.

Preventing Interruptions in Physical Therapy Act (H.R. 1517 / S. 2225) - Expanding locum tenens coverage beyond rural areas to ensure continuous patient care.

Optimizing Postpartum Outcomes Act (H.R. 4074) - Would instruct the Department of Health and Human Services to provide education for physicians and patients about Pelvic Health physical therapy and the benefits of this service following pregnancy.

Our CEO, Marty Blair, wrote a letter to the editor of The Tennessean advocating for seniors! We recently hosted Senator Blackburn's team at our Green Hills clinic, and we urge her and Congress to support the SAFE Act to provide no-cost fall prevention assessments for Medicare patients.

🚨 URGENT: Medicare cuts threaten therapy access for seniors! 🚨

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized a 2.8% cut to physical and occupational therapy providers for 2025, which went into effect on January 1. These cuts add to the 20% reduction we've experienced over the past dozen years while our costs continue rising. These cuts destabilize physical and occupational therapists' ability to provide high-quality, cost-effective care to older Americans.

Unfortunately, Medicare Advantage and commercial payors try to follow Medicare's lead by reducing reimbursement. This system is not sustainable for STAR Physical Therapy or any physical therapy provider to continue treating our elderly patients unless there is a meaningful change to how we get paid.

The good news? Reps. Greg Murphy, M.D. (R-NC) and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) have introduced Bipartisan legislation (H.R. 879: Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act) to STOP these cuts and provide a 2% increase for Medicare providers.
