💙 Heart Warrior Spotlight: Lamere Johnson 💙

At 12 years old, Lamere Johnson is the definition of courage. Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, Lamere endured multiple open-heart surgeries before ultimately receiving the gift of a heart transplant in November 2024. His journey has been filled with hospital stays, procedures, medications, and constant monitoring — but also with faith, resilience, and hope.

Today, what brings Lamere the most joy is getting to simply be a kid — playing games, being creative, laughing with family, and enjoying everyday moments that once felt out of reach. He has the sweetest spirit, a bright smile, and a quiet strength that inspires everyone around him. Even after all he’s faced, Lamere remains kind, thoughtful, and full of light.

His family shared an important reminder: a heart transplant is not the end of the journey — it’s the beginning of a new one. It requires ongoing care and vigilance, but it also brings renewed hope, joy, and the chance to truly live. Lamere’s story is a powerful testament to the strength of children and the life-changing impact of organ donation.

They also shared deep gratitude for Hands of Hope, whose compassion and support helped their family feel seen, understood, and cared for during one of the most challenging seasons of their lives.

💙 Heart Warrior Spotlight: Jensen 💙

At 7 months old, Jensen is surrounded by love — and he thrives in it. He loves being held, talked to, and included in everything happening around him. With four older siblings who adore him, Jensen is constantly covered in affection.

Jensen has the sweetest personality and is quick to smile the moment you engage with him. Playful, silly, and full of charm, he brings light even on the hardest days.

Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), Jensen’s life has required multiple open-heart surgeries and specialized care. He has already completed two major surgeries and faced serious complications, including time on life support and repeated hospital stays — yet he continues to fight every day.

As his family shared, “HLHS is an incredibly hard and lifelong journey, but it shows you just how strong these children truly are. Even through everything Jensen has faced, his smile and joy remind us every day that the fight is worth it.”

They also shared how meaningful it has been to have Hands of Hope alongside them — providing home support, peace of mind, and trusted guidance through an unpredictable journey.

💙 Heart Warrior Spotlight: Warren 💙

At 15 months old, Warren brings joy wherever he goes. He loves visiting his daddy at the fire department, listening to music, riding around the farm with his Papa, and blowing kisses to everyone he meets. With his sweet personality and constant waves, Warren has a way of making every day brighter.

Before he was born, doctors suspected a heart condition. After birth, Warren was diagnosed with three congenital heart defects: pulmonary atresia, congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA), and a ventricular septal defect. Born at 38 weeks, he spent time in the NICU at MUSC before coming home sooner than expected.

At 9 months old, Warren underwent his first open-heart surgery — an 11½-hour procedure to place a shunt — and he is now awaiting his second surgery. Through it all, his family has held tightly to hope, sharing that no matter how hard the news may feel, any day with Warren is a great day.

They also shared how grateful they are for Hands of Hope, describing the weekly visits, care, and keepsakes as a true blessing during a very uncertain season.

💙 Heart Warrior Spotlight: Owen 💙

At just 7 months old, Owen finds joy in the simplest, sweetest moments — watching the ceiling fan spin, giggling at his siblings, and soaking up time outside, his favorite place to be. With a bubbly personality and a constant smile, Owen brings light to everyone around him.

Owen was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) during pregnancy. Born via C-section, he underwent his first open-heart surgery at just 4 days old. Since then, his journey has included a stroke, seizures, time relying on a G-tube for nutrition, and a second open-heart surgery. Today, Owen is eating by mouth and continuing to grow stronger, with another surgery expected in the years ahead.

His family shared a powerful truth they hold close: the journey is long, but God gives us hope. While Owen’s surgeries are not a cure and he will always live with a single-ventricle heart, their faith has carried them through the hardest moments and continues to guide them forward.

They also shared how meaningful Hands of Hope has been — offering reassurance, peace of mind, and trusted support. Knowing an RN was just a call or text away helped them navigate uncertainty and feel less alone during overwhelming moments.

💗 Heart Warrior Spotlight: Scottie Mae 💗

At 15 months old, Scottie Mae finds joy in everything around her — music, books, dancing, exploring her home, playing with her toys, and spending time with the people she loves. Her smile is contagious, her energy endless, and her cuddly side just as strong as her playful one.

Scottie was born with a congenital heart defect, including AVSD and heterotaxy. She spent over a month in the NICU before going home with a G-tube and medications, followed by multiple hospital stays due to heart symptoms. At just a few months old, Scottie underwent a heart catheterization and open-heart surgery.

Since surgery, Scottie has weaned off her G-tube and most medications — and today, she is thriving and meeting milestones. As her family shared, “She is our superhero. The most resilient and strongest person we’ve ever met.”

Her family also described Hands of Hope as “a God send,” sharing gratitude for the support and peace they received during a very uncertain season.

💙 Heart Warrior Spotlight: Caden Gennie 💙

At 2 years old, Caden Gennie brings energy, laughter, and determination wherever he goes. He loves being outside, playing ball, and doing everything he can to keep up with his big brother. Caden has a fun, silly personality and enjoys showing off new skills — while still finding comfort staying close to mom and dad in unfamiliar or medical situations.

Born with complex congenital heart defects, Caden’s early life included multiple hospitalizations, procedures, and open-heart surgeries, along with feeding support and ongoing therapies. His journey has required more strength than most little ones ever face.

Since his full heart repair in March 2024, Caden has continued to grow and make progress, while remaining closely monitored. As his family shared, “Even though you can’t physically see anything wrong, that doesn’t mean he isn’t working hard just to live each day.” His heart will always be different — and his journey lifelong.

Caden’s family also shared that Hands of Hope was “a lifeline during the hardest, sickest days,” offering support, comfort, and care when they needed it most.

This Heart Month, we celebrate Caden and all heart warriors whose strength goes far beyond what can be seen. ❤️
