๐Ÿ’™ Meet Fernando๐Ÿ’™

At just 4 years old, Fernando is a beautiful reminder of strength, resilience, and the power of love.

Fernando finds joy in the sweetest thingsโ€ฆ being held, talked to, and sung to. He especially loves Disney musical movies, where the music and magic bring him comfort and happiness. ๐ŸŽถโœจ

His personality is uniquely his own, marching to the beat of his own drum. While he may not smile or laugh often, when he does, it lights up the entire world around him.

Fernando was diagnosed with Ohtahara syndrome at the age of 2 after many tests and scans. Doctors once didnโ€™t expect him to live past his first birthday, but by the grace of God, he is still here fighting every single day. He has faced so much, including living with just one kidney and frequent hospital stays, yet he continues to show what true strength looks like. He is, without a doubt, a little hero. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’™

His family shares a powerful message:
Life is a slow process. Cherish every moment. Hug your babies, kiss them often, and hold them close. Some days are harder than others, but every day is a gift.

Fernando has been supported by Hands of Hope for over a year, and his family describes the team as nothing short of amazingโ€”kind, patient, and always there. From his nurse, Caitlin, social worker Alicia and Dr. Beall, they have been so helpful every step of the way and made this journey a little easier.

Please join us in surrounding Fernando and his family with love. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’› Honoring Trisomy 21: Addison Stevenson ๐Ÿ’›

At 2 years old, Addison Stevenson fills every space with joy. Music and dancing are her happy place, and her bright smile seems to follow every beat. Addison is always cheerful, always moving, and always reminding those around her that happiness can be simple and powerful.

Addisonโ€™s journey began before birth, when her family learned she had Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and an AV canal heart defect. After she was born, Addison went straight to the NICU and later transferred to CHOA, where doctors determined her heart needed repair sooner than originally planned. Her surgery went well, but the days that followed were hard โ€” coming off the ventilator meant facing setbacks before progress finally came. After 111 days in the hospital, Addison was able to go home on oxygen, a milestone her family will never forget.

Her family shared an important message they hope the world understands: โ€œYour child will meet their milestones on their own terms. Donโ€™t give up. It is very hard work to be a medical and special needs parent.โ€ Addisonโ€™s story is a testament to perseverance, patience, and celebrating progress โ€” no matter the timeline.

They also shared deep gratitude for the care and support they received along the way, calling nurse Holly a โ€œGod sendโ€ and recognizing the compassion and guidance provided by the Hands of Hope team during some of their most overwhelming days.

As we honor Trisomy 21, we celebrate Addison โ€” her resilience, her rhythm, and the joy she brings simply by being herself. ๐Ÿ’›

โœจ Take a moment today to celebrate the unique strengths and timelines of individuals with Trisomy 21 โ€” progress is not a race. ๐Ÿ’›
