Dr. Kalpesh Vakharia and a team of UMMC surgeons took an innovative approach to remove a rare cancerous tumor that wrapped around a woman’s spine and spinal cord,through her eye socket. Dr. Vakharia serves as Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UMMC and is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Dr. Hanna will begin his new position in September 2025. He will also serve as President of University of Maryland Diagnostic Imaging Specialists and Chief of the Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine Clinical Service at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Joining us from Emory University School of Medicine, where he has worked since 2013, Dr. Hanna currently serves as Professor, Vice Chair of Diagnostic Imaging, and Division Director of Emergency and Trauma Imaging. He is highly regarded as an academic leader in radiology best practices, with a clinical and research focus on optimizing emergency imaging operations and minimizing diagnostic errors to improve patient outcomes. 🩻 🩺 ✨
