GOODNESS
Sitting down to write this Season’s Greetings from Upstream, I felt a brief sense of bewilderment about what to say given the multiple layers of stressors in our communities; local, national, and global. “Oh Goodness” my internal narrator muttered; and the word 'goodness' caught my attention. That moment blossomed into gratitude, and I began to think about how in MBSR we talk about how to meet what comes our way in ways that are healing, nourishing, and make use of all of our experience-the good, the bad and the ugly. This leads me to reflect on the goodness I have seen in all of you coming to classes at Upstream, coming to the Zoom meditations, the goodness of our practice together, the goodness of life offering itself in every moment of awareness, and we can be nurtured by that. Jemme and I are grateful for each one of you, and we wish you a peaceful season graced with lovingkindness.
One additional mention—Jemme called and asked me if I had recently seen the lines at Harvest Hope Food Bank. We talked about how hard the pandemic has been on families, especially women and working mothers who have had to stay home with children or lost jobs and the ability to sustain a household with children. So we decided Upstream would honor the Goodness of the Harvest Hope Food Bank. We are initiating a month long donation challenge to raise $5000.00 to support this local South Carolina effort. If you would like to join us, the link is posted below.
Warmly,
Hilda and Jemme
