◾️ MONTHLY MEDICAL MINUTES ON WAIN ◾️
Katie Jo Aaron: “For the month of May, there are multiple health topics being recognized. ALS Awareness Month, Arthritis Awareness Month, Better Sleep Month, Hepatitis Awareness Month, Lupus Awareness Month, Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and Bladder Cancer Awareness Month.
Today, I would like to focus on Bladder Cancer Awareness.
In 2025, 84,000 people in the United States received a bladder cancer diagnosis.
Bladder cancer is 7th most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States.
Women often have a delayed diagnosis and have worse outcomes.
The average age of a person diagnosed with bladder cancer is 73.
Risk factors of bladder cancer include smoking, chemical exposures, with Caucasian races twice likely to develop bladder cancer, age, and gender
Signs of bladder cancer include:
Blood in the urine urination.
Painful urination.
Urgency to urinate.
Inability to pass urine.
Abdominal pain.
Lower back pain.
Fatigue.
Losing weight without trying.
Currently there is no standard testing for bladder cancer, but bladder cancer can be detected early because it frequently has noticeable symptoms, like blood in the urine.
We encourage the community to speak to their provider if they have any concerns or urinary changes.
Information has been obtained from the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.
This is a foundation founded in 2005 and provides patients with critical information in community support.
Our office is located at 363 Office Park Drive.
We have new clinic hours! Open Monday through Friday 8A-4:30P Central. Same-day appointments are available. We take care of acute and chronic conditions.”
