I was honored to lead a live Rock Steady Boxing demonstration and share how movement can truly change lives.

FIGHT BACK AGAINST PARKINSON’S 🥊

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month 🌷

Rock Steady Boxing is a program specially designed for people living with Parkinson’s disease. Through boxing-inspired training, we focus on powerful, intentional movements and high-energy exercise that help slow progression and improve quality of life.

What started two years ago at the East Columbia 50+ Howard County Government, thanks to the vision and support of Director Meridy McCague, has grown into so much more than a fitness program.

It has become a home.

A place where individuals with Parkinson’s come together to build strength, find encouragement, and rediscover the confidence to fight back, together.

As we celebrate Parkinson’s Awareness Month, we also want to thank Meridy for believing in this program and making it possible. Your impact will continue to live on in every class, every punch, and every person you’ve helped.

Age is just nothing but a number and Marlene Rutherford is living proof!

At 78, she was working out with a trainer, and now, at 88, she’s still going strong!!! Her granddaughter, Heather Wood - who calls her "Mommom" - makes sure she stays healthy and strong 💪🏼 We train together twice a week, and Marlene is not afraid of pushing hard. With a smile on her face, she always asks, "Do you want me to do more?"

She is an absolute inspiration, showing us all that strength has no age limit. Her dedication is a testament to the importance of staying active and lifting weights, no matter your stage in life.

Meanwhile, while we train, my cat Bella enjoys some quality time with Heather soaking up all the love and attention 😻
