Your heart is pretty good at sending signals when something isn’t quite right. Not every symptom means something serious, but listening to your body is always a good idea.

Today is National Healthcare Decisions Day, a reminder of how important it is to have open conversations about your health.

Talking with your doctor and your family about your health history, risk factors, and goals can help everyone stay informed and on the same page.

For heart health especially, these conversations can make a big difference. Understanding family history, recognizing risk factors, and asking questions during medical visits are all important steps in protecting your long-term health.

Sometimes the most important step in caring for your health is simply starting the conversation.

If sleep were a medication, cardiologists would prescribe it a lot more often.

Getting enough quality sleep helps support:

• healthy blood pressure

• balanced hormones

• overall cardiovascular health

Your heart does a lot of work while you’re awake. Sleep is when it gets to recover.

Heart health myth:

“Heart disease only affects older adults.”

While age can increase risk, heart disease often develops over many years. Things like blood pressure, cholesterol, lifestyle habits, and family history all play a role.

Taking care of your heart early in life can make a meaningful difference later on.

You don’t need an intense workout to do something good for your heart.

Something as simple as going for a walk can help support cardiovascular health. Regular walking can improve circulation, help manage blood pressure, reduce stress, and boost overall wellness.

As the weather gets nicer this spring, it might be the perfect time to add a short walk to your daily routine!

Many people don’t realize that chronic stress can impact heart health over time. Stress may contribute to higher blood pressure and other cardiovascular risks if it isn’t managed well.

Taking time to slow down, get outside, move your body, or practice relaxation techniques can all support both mental and heart health.

Even small moments of stress relief can make a difference!

We are grateful for the trust our community places in us every day.

Caring for your heart is something we take seriously — and personally.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your health journey.

And thank you to our doctors for the long hours, thoughtful care, and commitment to keeping our community’s hearts healthy.

We appreciate you today and every day.

The cardiologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and the entire team at Missouri Heart Center have been honored to serve Columbia and Mid‑Missouri for more than 40 years as the community’s leading provider of cardiovascular care. Our focus has always been — and remains — delivering excellent, patient‑centered heart care close to home. Since our group formed we have cared for patients almost exclusively at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

For months, we have tried to meet with leadership team at Boone Health to work constructively towards a new, collaborative arrangement that would preserve access to and expand high‑quality care for our patients and for the entire community. Unfortunately, Boone refused to engage with us in any meaningful way. Instead, we have been met with a series of escalating legal threats, culminating in today’s filing.

Earlier today Boone Health filed a lawsuit against Missouri Heart Center. We disagree with the lawsuit’s allegations and believe those claims are both legally and factually incorrect. This litigation does not change our commitment to caring for patients.

As before we stand ready to meet with Boone Health leadership to develop a constructive path forward that puts patients first, supports the clinicians who care for them, and supports Boone Hospital. Missouri Heart Center re-affirms its commitment to providing excellent care to our community and will continue working on behalf of patients to further expand access and quality of care.

Because this is pending litigation, we will not comment further on the legal process. Our priority is caring for patients and supporting our team.

Our practice remains open and we will continue to provide excellent care for patients in Columbia and central Missouri. We as the partners of Missouri Cardiovascular Specialists and Missouri Heart Center remain committed to working at and with Boone and remain open to negotiation even in the face of these aggressive legal maneuvers.

As the weather warms up, consider this your invitation to move a little more.

It doesn’t have to be intense.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

A walk around the block, light stretching, gardening... it all supports your heart. ❤️
