Williams Funeral Home & Crematory

Williams Funeral Home & Crematory Williams Funeral Home is family operated since 1935. We also help plan ahead for funeral expenses. Pet cremations and pet services are available on request.

We have an on-property crematory serving families that have chosen cremation services or traditional funeral arrangements. Since 1935, Williams Funeral Home & Crematory has provided custom funeral packages designed to celebrate life and serve families. This family-operated business is more than an essential funeral home. All funeral directors are also Certified Celebrants; they work with each family to provide personalized consulting and guidance to ensure that the event is both meaningful and respectful. Funeral packages cover every detail required for a quality event. The caring staff take pride in the family-focused approach used when designing funeral services. Funeral packages can always be customized to include visitations, graveside services, military honors, caskets, and more. Families can choose from traditional funeral offerings, or design a less-formal event such as a life celebration or memorial. Williams Funeral Home & Crematory has owned and operated an on-site crematory for over 20 years. Unlike most other funeral homes that advertise cremation services and subcontract to other providers, the team at Williams Funeral Home & Crematory assures that their own licensed and certified employees will handle all details of the cremation. Direct cremation is available for families who want to simplify the services. Or, cremation can be combined with a memorial service or celebration of life. The original funeral home was established in 1935 on Seventh Street in Columbia. In 2012, a tragic fire destroyed much of the building. But the bomb-shelter style construction in the basement protected precious items, including paperwork and files. The funeral home has been rebuilt, and the team is now proud to offer two locations for convenience. Williams Funeral Home & Crematory provides services for families throughout Maury County, including Columbia, Mt. Pleasant, Spring Hill, Lawrenceburg, and Pulaski. The funeral home holds memberships with several industry organizations, including the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association (ICCFA), The Southern Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Association (SCCFA), and the Cemetery Association of Tennessee (CAT). Kay Stone

Kay Elizabeth Stone was born on February 8, 1952, in Key West, FL to John King Stone and Pearl Tillman Stone. She spent most of her childhood in the swamps of Clay County, FL with her wild little sister Janet Gail Stone-Erdman, currently of NC. In those swamps, she learned to barrel race, and to wrangle horses, alligators, snakes, armadillos, and violent drunks.

From this environment of danger and fear, school proved a refuge, and Kay leaned in with enthusiasm, graduating from Clay High (1970, Valedictorian) and Berry College (1974, magna cm laude). Her experience was very different when she attended seminary, her joyful discipleship to Jesus’ crashing head on with the judgement, condemnation, arrogance, and intolerance of the fundamentalists she came to know as the American Taliban. It was during this time Kay developed her own theology that defined her faith for the rest of her life: 1. God is. 2. God loves us. 3. God wants us to love one another. 4. Sometimes, miracles happen. Kay found her particular faith accepted in the United Methodist Church, and she was a faithful member for the last 50 years of her life.

Romantic love was challenging for Kay. Due to her own poor judgement and profoundly misplaced trust, Kay faced life-changing betrayal, unbelievable breaking of vows and promises, and much misplaced love. It was time of turmoil and sorrow. However, Kay did manage to bring forth children who are a source of pride, happy delight, and joy: Robert Donigian (Ashburn, VA), Elizabeth Donigian (Nashville, TN), and George Donigian, Jr. (Frederick, MD), and to her utter amazement, 5 grandchildren.

Just when love seemed an impossible dream, Kay’s entire life changed, and all her wishes for love were fulfilled when she and Donald R. Dodson combined their lives to create their own world. Don and Kay embraced the belief that “it’s never too late to live happily ever after,” which they did for the rest of Kay’s life.

Kay’s work life took her through a variety of fields. Although she always claimed to be an “earth mother,” supporting herself and her children required more than that. Kay worked as a minister, a social worker, and a teacher before going back to school and becoming a CPA. Much of her CPA career was spent at Vanderbilt University. After leaving Vanderbilt, Kay was finally able to fulfil her earth mother dreams and she and Don built a business in Mount Pleasant, TN restoring old homes. It was a dream come true for both of them and Kay really loved all the DIY, as well as creating beauty and safety for others as the homes were transformed. This creative, nurturing work was supplemented by other joys in gardening and landscaping, cooking for and entertaining friends and family, and playing with her dad’s 1970 F-100. Consequently, for 6 months of the year, Kay’s house was a jungle of plants being “wintered over.”

In the end, Kay’s own pancreas turned on her, and took her out on December 17, 2025. At Kay’s insistence, she has been cremated and there will be no memorial service.

Timothy Rountree

Timothy Blake (Tim) Rountree, 62, passed away at his new home on December 16, 2025 in Hixson, Tennessee. He was born in Columbia TN, and grew up in Mt. Pleasant.

He had a PhD in Theology and enjoyed talking about his faith with anyone who would listen. He really missed the church family at Graymere Church of Christ after he moved to Hixson TN last year. It was really hard to replace the friends and fellowship he had there.

A wonderful, kind, and intelligent man who enjoyed life. He had for a long time been “fixing” computers for people. Sometimes even for free for people who couldn’t afford to take their machine anywhere for help. It didn’t matter if it was a hardware issue or Windows related he could almost always find the answer to whatever was happening.

He had become an avid Ping Pong/Table Tennis player and made many new friends among that community. He was always the first one to invite new players to join him in a game at the Smash n’Go Table Tennis Club in Rivergate Mall, sometimes when they couldn’t even keep the ball in play. He had become quite successful in the few years he has played, competing in the State Senior Olympics and even the National Senior Games.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Melba Rountree, and his sister in law Lori Rountree and niece Adrien Rountree. He is survived by his brother Dennis (Helen) Rountree.

We will celebrate his life Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Debbie Carr
d. December 7, 2025
Debbie Carr, a woman with a heart big enough to hold her entire family, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth touched everyone lucky enough to know her.

Born in Chicago, Illinois to her late parents and preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, Debbie lived a life centered around family, joy, and generosity. She adored the holidays and any chance to bring her family together—big gatherings, laughter, and a full house were her favorite things. If you walked into her home, you never left hungry. Cooking was one of the ways she showed love, and she was famous for making sure everyone had a plate, unless it was her Mrs. Grass’s soup. That was her soup, and she was not sharing. It was one of those perfectly “Debbie” quirks her family will smile about forever.

Debbie loved the sun on her skin, shopping trips, and the idea of seeing more of the world. She enjoyed traveling and cherished simple pleasures, like relaxing with her soap operas—especially The Young and the Restless. Her heart was happiest surrounded by the people she loved, and she never stopped giving, caring, and showing up for her family.

She is survived by her two children, Michael Carr and Stacey Carr; her grandchildren, Ali Carr and Megan Carr; her great-granddaughter, Caroline Hickman; her husband, Ron Sauber; and her three sisters, Diane, Donna, and Denise. Her presence, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Her memory will live on in the stories told at family gatherings she would have loved, in the meals shared around the table, and in the lives of the people she nurtured so wholeheartedly.
