April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. I am a PWR!Moves Certified Therapist and along with PD Specific exercise, I help patients navigate the resources that are out there. New research has been presented for Freezing of Gait, exercise prescription, new medications have been approved, and there is an ocean of good and of questionable information. March 13 at 1:00pm is Healing Helmets' Community Event, where you are invited to learn about the mission of Healing Helmets. The group will also be showing off their activities and talking about what this organization means to them! Leave with a FREE custom wooden pen, their gift to you! March 22 at 2:00pm-5:00pm is the 6th Annual Walk, Run & Roll for Brain Injury Awareness, put on by the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina. March is National Brain Injury Awareness month. Those who have sustained traumatic brain injuries, concussions, hypoxia, etc, may experience changes in daily functioning. Some symptoms may include aphasia and autonomic dysregulation and a heightened sympathetic state. We have some great resources located in the Forest Acres area of Columbia, SC! First off, my good friends at Speech-Language Pathology Associates of South Carolina, LLC offers high level Speech Therapy and specialize in TBI especially with the veteran community. They also offer many resources and events to recovering veterans. Next, The Supine Studio has amazing massage therapists who are results driven and knowledgeable in restoring the parasympathetic state and facilitate recovery of trauma survivors. I wanted to shout out these amazing practices!
