I’ve pulled back from other platforms not for a lack of things to say but because social media is so different now. Instagram used to be a place for interesting photos. It’s now a place for videos, notes, stories, lives, algorithms, and doomscrolling. Some days, it seems to take a team of people to feed the content beast. It’s no longer feels good. I miss the early days of social media, its authenticity, and the genuine connection that you could find there.

I’m leaning into what feels good now. So I’m making a change, devoting less time to social media, and putting more energy into Substack. I’m more excited about this than I've been about anything in a long time. Of course, I’ve had some doubts about diving into another platform. But it feels good to be able to slow down, send you a note that you can read at your pleasure, and share tips that help you workout consistently.

I’ve loved working with all of you through the years. We’ve practiced together at SCAD in Atlanta. We’ve practiced at classes hosted at libraries in Washington, DC. We practiced yoga in sunny San Juan. We’ve practiced Pilates at workplace events. I’ve met you in your homes for private classes.

The pop-up studio was also incredible. Welcoming over 100 people into that space in the BullStreet District, watching you challenge yourselves in partner yoga classes, hearing someone shout "that's amazing!" in the middle of a Deep Release class are memories will stay with me forever.

My Substack is just a continuation of this work. Subscribe for free and consider becoming a paid subscriber. Setbacks are common in any practice. We all miss days. A difficult pregnancy, an injury, illness, or an emotional upset can take the steam out of your practice.

There are times, too, when life just gets in the way. With all that you have to do — children to raise, aging parents to care for, jobs and chores to do, committing to practice isn't always easy but even those of us with lapses of months or even years can make a successful return to the mat.

By taking time to examine the reasons you stopped and your motivation for returning, you can ensure that this time around, your practice remains a permanent part of your life. That’s what really matters — that you recover, stay committed, and continue to workout again and again.
