Happy Mother’s Day to my Momma 💐💕

I am who I am as a mother because of who you are.

Your love, strength, prayers, sacrifices, and example have shaped me in more ways than I could ever fully explain. You have shown me what it means to love deeply, give selflessly, stand strong, and keep going even when life is heavy.

So much of the mother I am today comes from watching you — the way you care, the way you lead, the way you show up, and the way you love your family with your whole heart.

Thank you for being my first example of motherhood, my safe place, my teacher, and one of my greatest blessings. I pray that you feel all the love and appreciation you deserve today and always.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mommy. I love you so much 💕

Your compassion, advocacy, education, and care make a lasting difference in the lives of the families you serve. Thank you for being a trusted source of support, safety, and healing in our communities.

What a beautiful way to close out Black Maternal Health Week in my home community of Howard County. Today, I had the honor of giving the welcome speech and connecting with so many mothers, families, and community organizations who are all committed to advancing maternal health in our county.

Being in this space was a powerful reminder that this work is bigger than any one person or organization. It is rooted in community, advocacy, and the shared belief that every mother deserves to be seen, heard, supported, and cared for.

As we reflect on this year’s Black Maternal Health Week theme, Rooted in Justice and Joy, today truly embodied both. Justice means continuing to advocate for equitable care, better outcomes, and systems that truly support Black mothers. Joy means creating spaces where mothers feel celebrated, connected, and uplifted.

I’m grateful to have been part of such a meaningful event and inspired by the collective commitment to improving maternal health in Howard County.

The last two days of Black Maternal Health Week have been incredibly meaningful. From the screening and panel discussion of the documentary Listen to Me by Dr. Kanika Harris, to a Community Postpartum Baby Shower led by and supported by My Sister’s Keeper, these events reminded me why I do this work.

I remain committed to uplifting women’s wellness, advocating for change in maternal health, and helping prepare the next generation of healthcare providers to be culturally competent, compassionate, and sensitive practitioners.
