May 21, 2020 Colonial Manors of Columbus Community, Inc. Update
We would like to thank all of our friends and family for supporting us. We wanted to give everyone an update on what is happening at Colonial Manor as we know that many of you are missing your loved ones
May 18th marks our 10th week of visitor restrictions. At this time, only CMCC staff members and designated volunteers are permitted to enter the facilities. Staff members coming in must have a health screening, perform hand hygiene, put on a face mask and protective eyewear before they go to their work areas.
We are working hard to keep our residents spirits up. Our family and friends have been amazing. Our residents have had phone calls, window visits, cards and letters, and recorded piano music sent to the facility to entertain. Our staff has enjoyed sweet treats and notes that lift their spirits from family and friends. With so many changes that have taken place our staff and residents have worked hard to adapt and understand.
We are working on new methods of communication with our staff and families through email and text messaging. The email or text communications will only be used to issue general facility information, such as, an invitation to an upcoming event or an update on the facility status. The emails will come with a GMass tag and the text messages will come to you from the number (833)-748-0380. There will be no personal information shared through the group messaging.
We are continuing to follow the directions of Public Health Department and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Some of our staff members had an opportunity to get tested for the Corona virus through a Test Iowa strike team and all tests returned negative.
On April 29th and 30th the facility oversight agency, Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals, conducted an offsite COVID survey of our facility. The survey process reviewed resident records, the facility infection control practices, pandemic policies and emergency planning. The survey was completed with no deficiencies.
President Trump has issued guidelines to re-open the Country in three phases. According to Iowa Healthcare Association we are in phase 1. We will have to work hard and hang in there a bit longer before we can open up our facility and enjoy our loved ones again. For more information go to www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/ .
We will continue to keep a very watchful eye on what is happening out in the world as well as what is going on inside our walls. We will make every effort to keep our residents (your loved ones) and our staff members as safe as possible during this uncertain time. Please continue to call and check in anytime! We miss you all!

Colonial Manors of Columbus Community, Inc. Update
We wanted to give everyone an update on what is happening at Colonial Manor as we know that many
of you are missing your loved ones and are very concerned. It is important that we keep you informed
of what we are doing to protect those we care for as well as our staff.
April 6, 2020 marks the start of our 5 th week of no visitors or restricted visits. It is a challenging time for
everyone at CMCC but it has allowed us to show our true spirit as a staff.
At this time, only CMCC staff members and designated volunteers are permitted to enter the facilities.
As of Friday, April 3 rd staff members coming in must have a health screening, perform hand hygiene, put
on a face mask and protective eyewear before they go to their work areas.
We have implemented additional protocol and guidance to staff on how to report illness and/or
exposure situations.
CMCC continues to ensure the cleanest environment possible. The cleaner disinfectant that is used to
clean most surfaces in the facilities is approved for use in combatting human Corona virus.
Meal times have been staggered to ensure social distancing but to still allow our residents to come to
meals. The residents are very understanding of changes in their daily lives and in the environment they
live in.
We are incorporating additional craft times in which the residents are making hearts and bead projects
to give to the local Emergency, Fire and Police crews. The residents have also filled eggs and given them
to the local daycare. We have been on walks outdoors and played some new games throughout the
building (from room doorways).
We will continue to keep a very watchful eye on what is happening out in the world as well as what is
going on inside our walls. We will make every effort to keep our residents and staff as safe as possible
during this uncertain time.

We want to assure our visitors, friends and families that our staff members are well-trained and prepared to manage outbreaks of viruses and infectious situations. Our facility implements standard protective protocols throughout the year to ensure the health and well-being of our residents, staff and visitors which include minimizing the potential for exposure of seasonal influenzas and other respiratory viruses.
For that reason, Colonial Manor will begin restricting visitors until further notice as follows:
ALL VISITORS, especially those with cough, runny nose, congestion, fever – SHOULD POSTPONE VISITS AT THIS TIME
All volunteers, supplemental care providers and activity groups will be rescheduled and/or cancelled until further notice.
Phones are available to talk with your loved one is you wish (Call 319-728-2276)
If you do enter our facility:
You may be asked to complete a health & travel screening (get these from the front office or charge nurse)
You need to use hand sanitizer or wash your hands in the dining room before going to a resident room
ONLY visit your resident
As we move through this influenza and respiratory virus season we will do our best to keep you informed. We will continue to follow guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health and the CDC. We thank you for your patience, compliance and understanding during this time!
