Our residents at Willow Brook Run celebrated the 4th early with a special cook-out yesterday, provided by our culinary team. Followed by a patriotic concert from The Outsiders! It was a great way to start the celebrations!

There were four cellos at Willow Brook Run yesterday! Jonalyn and her cello students came to accompany our assisted living residents for a patriotic sing-a-long! It sure was nice to hear the music and singing wafting down the halls!

The Men's Sports Bar Hangout was back again at Willow Brook Run this year! As always, this event was truly a hole in one event, where residents from independent living, assisted living and memory care, joined by family members, and Willow Brook teammates were all able to enjoy an afternoon together. Due to Amy's creativity and the combined work of her team of volunteers the Summit Room was transformed once again, and really felt like an actual sports bar hangout location (did we mention that there were even non-alcoholic butterscotch shots and candy ci**rs?!).

We'd like to take a moment to give a shout out to one of our Willow Brook Run servers, Favour. Favour, who is a student-athlete at Rutherford B. Hayes High School and was recognized as a four-star 2026 Ohio running back, committed to The Ohio State Buckeyes! He received multiple scholarship offers and chose the Scarlet and Gray. Favour will be a senior this upcoming school year, so you still have time to see him scorch the field as a Pacer! Our residents have been congratulating him and joking that if he’s the fastest kid in the state, he can probably deliver food a little faster, too! Congratulations Favour! We're so excited to see you excel in all that you do! OH-IO!

We asked Favour a couple of questions the other day:
Q: Out of all of the schools, what made you choose OSU?
A: It's a good school, and seems like it has high chances of leading to the NFL.

Q: What do you love most about football?
A: The teammate aspect of the sport - you're only as strong as your weakest link. You've got to work together as a team!

Q: What do you like most about working at Willow Brook?
A: The stories the residents have to share - the lives they've lived - it's really interesting to hear them share! Plus it has flexible hours!

With this heat wave, a boat ride on the water probably sounds refreshing to most people. Our residents at Willow Brook Home created their own nautical fun by making mini boats out of pool noodles. Then they spent time floating them in a pool in one of the courtyards. We also discussed the history of boat names, and why boats were commonly named after women. Each resident named their boat and wrote the name on the side of the pool noodle.

"The association of ships and yachts with femininity dates back centuries, rooted in maritime traditions where vessels were often personified as nurturing and protective entities. Ancient mariners viewed the sea as both a life-giving force and a perilous environment, and they sought to appease protective female deities, such as sea goddesses. This belief influenced the practice of naming ships after women, embodying grace, strength, and a sense of guardianship. Additionally, gendered language in many seafaring cultures, like those in Europe, assigned feminine pronouns to ships, reinforcing this linguistic tradition."
